$3.99 .com domain names from 1and1.com - Why aren't they charging me that?

Why is it that 1and1.com is advertising $3.99 .com domain names but during the checkout process they say that the price is $8.99? I haven't received my invoice yet so hopefully they charge me what they have advertised.

Did you register for 2 years? According to the website you have to sign up for 2 years -the 1st year is $3.99 and the 2nd is $8.99. It's $8.99 for 1 year registrations.

Where did you read that at???? I'm looking at it right now and all it says is that you have to register it for a year. They offered me the 2 year registration during checkout and it didn't say that either.

When I go to the front page at 1and1.com I see a graphic that says "dot com $3.99 first year" with an * asterix.
At the bottom of the page it says " *Minimum contract term and setup fees may apply. Click here for full promotional offer details." That link takes me to http://order.1and1.com/xml/order/Tc...F7D2FF11E89095.TC60a?__frame=_top&__lf=Static where it says "Domains: Save $5 on .com
    1. 24 month minimum registration period applies."
Akternately when I go thru the registration process I see:
    "Special Offer:
    $5 discount on recurring fee.
The minimum contract term is 24 months."

OH OK!!!!! So they hide the details in small text on the bottom of their website. That's a good way to keep their customers. This way people will buy a .com domain thinking they're getting it for $3.99 when they're really paying the full $8.99. I'm going to contact them right now and ask that they upgrade my registration to 2 years.

I don't think they're a bad company. I've experienced almost no downtime with their hosting. I just think they should have made their $3.99 offer more apparent.

I agree with the other posters about 1and1.com. They are one of the worse hosting/Domain Name services out there!!!

I was with them for a while and they were AWFUL!! Their customer service sucked and they tried to charge for me hosting that I cancelled. They even sent the "account" to collections. I kicked their asses because I had MULTIPLE EMAILS to them telling them that not only did I not give them the ok to try and charge my credit card, but I also didn't want their services and had cancelled it a long time ago. It was the many emails that got the collection company top drop the case and 1and1 to leave me the hell alone.

As one poster already said, google them and you will hear/see all of the 1and1horror stories.

    They do INDEED SUCK!!!!

Did you confirm your cancellation in your email? If you didn't that's one reason why they may have charged you.

You can find cheaper domains but their hosting rocks, never any downtime and good rates.

I register one domain from 1and1.com .I submit 2 year contact. But,they only bill $3.99 for one year.Check Inforev Infosys .But,they take 5 days time for register a domain.I order another domain registration. But,I cancel that order.because, they takes a long long time for register a domain.Besides, they need your everything.Like national id,passport, credit card copy!Their billing system is 3rd class. They takes at list 7 days time to bill for your domain!

Until you want to cancel and then it turns into a world class one for digging as much money as possible out of your account before you can get away.
