Can anyone help with a backlink question please ?

I have been using a link popularity checker on the SEO site: submitexpress.com .. i put in my site and a couple of my competitors just to be nosy, and to see what number of links am gonna be needing to get as high as them etc .. and its thrown me a question (or 2 lol)
for those that havnt used that link checker, it shows links in the following search engines :
Google, Yahoo!, AllTheWeb, AltaVista, MSN, HotBot/Inktomi

my questions are:
i have links showing in all the search engines except google .. how do i get them in there? .. i am submitting to directories etc .. does it just take longer to show in google ?

am i right in understanding that the page rank thing is worked out on the amount of links you have in google ? .. its just that one of my competitors also has 0 in google, yet they have a page rank .. i am so confuddled lolol

Google only shows a portion of backlinks they count, and yes, there is a delay in updating. Even though the backlinks are not yet showing, they are still being used by google. Each backlink can pass 85% of the pages PR, but this is divided between the number of outgoing links on the page - i.e. a page with only 1 outgoing link passes 10X as much PR to your site that a page with 10 outgoing links. Non-relevant links will pass the same PR, but you need to concentrate on relevant backlinks to help you with SERPS.

anyway, back onto the subject in hand .. i clicked that link up there /\ and its a thread about adsense refreshing pages etc .. i did read it all thru, but couldnt see what i was looking for lolol

thank you mjewel .. google only showing a portion of the links explains a lot then in this case dosnt it. I have been submitting links to places that are relevant .. and the % details you give up there will come in handy when i am working out if its worth putting a link in certain places. I just went onto the archive thing .. 'go way back' it said .. and the competitors of mine have been going for YEARS ! .. i think i am just being a tad impatient arnt i lol

I thought outgoing links were just as important as backlinks or nearly so.

 

Google delay just, just wait.
i suggest also social bookmarking for faster inclusion on google.
