Do I need software to track my hits

I'm currently building a site for affiliate links. I don't have any feedback for how well I've optimised my site, I don't know how much traffic I have. How can I find that out?

You can setup Google analytics on your site to track your own traffic, most affiliate programs have stats for the offers you are running in terms of impressions / clicks / conversions. So you just compare both of them.

You can take this one step further once you are making good money to track between both with some type of custom setup.

Google analytics only works if you have a conversion page, I do not. I have a page with an affiliate link. I just want to know simple info hits and clicks. Also I tried the google optimiser and it says my page is a file, so not much SEO help from Google.

Most affiliate networks have Statistics Report. Then you can obtain a report summarizing statistics by subid.

    Per Statcounter:

Common problem with Popular Page Stats
If you only install the StatCounter code on one page of your website we can only track one page of your website. It is highly recommended to install the same code on all pages of your website you want to track.

So I'm looking for alternate solutions...
