Okay, so I went to buy my first domain on GoDaddy, and in the checkout, I have to pay 12$ a year if I don't want my Personal information listed in Public WHOIS Database... What do you do when buying a domain ?? THX

I'm with Hover also known as IYD and recently bought over by Tucows. Domains with them cost $14.95 (yes a little expensive) but they have FREE WHOIS privacy feature. :)

Yeah , that's the way it is. When you purchase a domain , everybody can view your details. If I am not mistaken , once you buy more than 5 domains with go daddy , you get free privacy. check it out with them.

Yea NameCheap is the way to go. Free for the first year and I believe it's like $2.99 per year after that. GoDaddy is good in it's own sense for other things. If you purchase the platinum membership it is very secure. No one can transfer your domain or even attempt to jack it without documented faxed copies of the credit card used and your personal I.D. Also it will hold the domain for an extra year after it expires incase you forget to renew it.

    NameCheap is cheap & efficient
GoDaddy is expensive & super secure

Get yourself a PO Box & use your mobile number ;)

Great way to lose a domain for having incorrect Whois contact details!
