Hi, I have been thinking of putting together a couple of monthly newsletters for a few of my sites, and I was wondering if someone could direct me to an easy to understand (I am a bit thick) set of rules about email/list marketing Right now it is just newsletters but I am also thinking of list building for some affilate projects that have come to mind, so anything about opt in laws, what options I have about using list for contacting about different things etc would be greatly of interest Thanks in advance for your time Nick
Make sure its opt-in only. In other words, make sure people agree to get the emails (eg. they fill out a form on your page) That should be ok.
In the US email marking is regulated by CAN-SPAM. You can find out more details here in user friendly form: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/edcams/spam/business.htm I believe you are supposed to follow these rules if any of the recipients on your email list are in the US. Here is the WIkipedia article that lists email marketing/spam regulations by country: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_spam_legislation_by_country Email marketing in the UK is covered by the Privacy and Eletronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations of 2003 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privacy_and_Electronic_Communications_(EC_Directive)_Regulations_2003
