Might be thinking from the title what I am going to share with you today and why it is called 'Dirty'. I won't let you wait for it; The thing is called 'Google Notebook'.

Google Notebook is a web research tool that allows users to clip text, search results, and images from web pages and place them in notebooks for later use.

Notebook entries can be defined as public or private. So, here's the rub. While surfing on the net I came to know about this trick according to which you can easily get some backlinks from your article or notes published in your Google notebook.

Since it is for your private use (or private use of your group) I rather doubt it will be counted for as a backlink

While those links will be only available for logged in Google Users via their Google accounts, then it won't be considered as real backlinks for the search engines ;)

If they were picked up they would probably soon disappear , thats what happens with us , we get 10 links , we lose 8 , its always up and down really , google has gotten clever :)

Google Notebook spamming is really old, see spam.

It's been bought up with Matt Cutts and Google a long time ago, it's no doubt worthless for backlinks and actually i wouldn't put my link on it in case it was seen as spam.

It "may" be still viable as parasitic spam pages, ie filling the notebook with affiliate links then spamming backlinks to it but i haven't even been seeing Notebooks ranking in the SERP's much anymore.

Definitely not a good idea, Google will surely prevent this kind as it might be abused.

Does your site get penalized for posting an article in Notebook? It doesn't seem like it's wrong.

I tried this trick 3 months ago. I got no any benefit. This is because it is not publically visible to all. Only if you login your account then use the notebook content. So I don't think this trick will give any advantage of backlinks.

I see some people saying that it isn't public and the OP saying you can make it public. Which is it? Is it only public if you are logged on? Or only public to people logged onto it? Or public all the time?

Would you get dinged for duplicate content if you saved your blog articles there?
