Just had this question.. I have a domain at NameCheap that expires next month and got a renewal notice. Why should I renew with them at $9.69 while I could transfer it to GoDaddy and only pay $6.99 + $0.20 ICANN fee ($7.19)? I would save $2.50 in the process by transferring. Awaiting for feedback...
Yeah i agreed you to jump to another cheaper registrar. Beside that, what you need to take notes is that will your future registrar is stable or will your future registrar will increase their renewal fee in the future?
Yeah very true mentos. I believe GoDaddy is the most stable of any registrar out there though, and they have fair priced renewal rates and always have coupons that can be used.
It can be quite a savings when you have a few domains. Another register MyDomain.com also offer $7.19 transfers.
Transfers usually just take a few days. I'll keep you updated on how long this one takes as I have already approved everything, so we'll see.
I think after transfer , you would still have to renew the domain as the registeration and expiration dates would remane same on other domain registerar also.
Ah gotcha, but I don't care if my WHOIS is shown or not. Transfers include renewing the domain for 1 year as well.
Is it possible to switch back to the old registrar after 1 year at new registrar? I mean e.g.I have a domain xyz.com at Name.com.At the end of 1st year, I transferred it to Godaddy. Now when I am about to complete 2nd year at Godaddy, can I again shift it to Name.com for 3rd year?
and keep in mind that you can't make a domain transfer to any registrar, If your domain has few months left for expiration
