Hi! I see that this subject has not been discussed on DP so i thought to ask all you all and see your opinion, i will be more than Happy to see all your Responses. I was browshing also this website and i think is absolutly gorgeous and you can Learn allot: http://www.nasa.gov/topics/universe/index.html What do you think, how big is universe and what comes after death? Thank you all, love you /jik
actually i've been asking this question for so many times and still haven't been able to find the answer.
What about aliens? Do they exist? I have read this: PASADENA, Calif. -- NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has discovered carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of a planet orbiting another star. This breakthrough is an important step toward finding chemical biotracers of extraterrestrial life. source: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/spitzer/news/spitzer-20081209.html
Regarding your first question there are two possibilities: 1) No one knows the answer 2) If they ( doesn't matter who they are: scientists, secret services, people with paranormal abilities ) know the answer, they don't have any interest to share this information with us so we will probably won't find the answer very soon My opinion about this: I think the science is still at beginning and we ( by "we" I mean "we, as human beings", not "we, the members of this board ) have much more to learn and to discover about this Universe and even about ourselves Regarding your second question: Obviously we can only make suppositions about this: There are scientists and doctors that consider there is life after death, most of the existing religions consider there is life after death and so on.Think about the water cycle - the journey that water takes as it circulates from the land to the sky and back again. Obviously, we are much more complex than a drop of water, but the same thing may happen to us.So, what comes after death ? ... maybe another life Regarding your third question: I have only two things about this 1) We should be very selfish to consider ourselves the only one civilisation on this entire Universe. 2.Why would our creator ( doesn't matter if by creator we mean: God, a superior conscience or if we consider The Big Bang as our Universe creator ) waste so much space while creating this Universe, why would our creator make so many planets and so on if we're the only ones on this Universe. In conclusion, i think we're not alone.Maybe we're just not prepared to have contact with entities from outer space right now.
Thank you for your answer Haegemonia. Here is my answer to you: You said that we are like water so the same thing may happen to us, well let me tell you what i think: -In the moment that you talk about the soul, reincarnation stories or other similar means you accept "something" which has certain properties, information, for example. memories or personality traits but it is immaterial. What keeps this so called soul? -Personal old identity? Her way of being? Memories? Knowledge, skills? All this without a material support? Like you have several gigabytes of information, but without a storage medium type hard disk. From my direct experience (neurology, neurosurgery), I can say that all the memories, sensations, knowledge, etc. psychological traits. ONLY are the fruit of human brain activity. -A body like any other, only more complex. The most brilliant scholar or man of culture is reduced to the level of vegetables in the moment in which a cerebral vascular attack, a tumor or other disease destroys some nervous centers. -You can turn a scientist into a moron with a simple incision done wrong. Where goes the information accumulated by him at that time?Nowhere. About your answer about aliens and the "BIG BOYS" that knows all and do not tell us the answer about universe, and that we are not alone in the universe i would like to hear other members opinion before i pronunce myself. Human memory .... Brain learns to use the body from the first day a women gives born to a child. Imagine the new child borned, injected with tons of human memory, or...your memory... Do you think "scientiest" didn't find a way untill now to store human memory and inject it to a new human life? Let's be serious....we made it to moon..... Take example the hard disk, You store information and transfer it to a brand new hard disk. The same is with human body, except "hard disk" is (HUMAN MEMORY)! Now the question is: Who has acces to this knowledge, who is so heartless and let people die without a chance to second life... It's very sad to me to see that people are interested only to make money....and not interested in science. What would you choose ? Eternal life, or having money for 100 years...
First of all, good to see people interested about this. I never said we are like water, i just said we are much more complex than a drop of water, but the same thing may happen to us regarding the cycle of water.By this i meant there is possible a such cycle to us humans as well. For example a cycle - material ( flesh, bones, etc + soul + spirit ) -> immaterial (only soul + spirit + other forms of existence ) -> ???. I only said it is possible that after death it will not be the end of our existence, but an upgrade ( we may not need this body, we could only exist as a spirit or any other form of energy ).It's just a theory, that's why we discuss here. ( i can't post links to pages or books to sustain my arguments because the books i read are not in English so it would be useless ) If the knowledge is only the fruit of human activity then how do you explain the inventions ? Also, where did the information from our DNA come ? ( from our ancestors ) Then where did the information from our ancestor's DNA come ? Read about the Akashic Field & Akashic Records. That would also explain the "inventions issue too". You or the author of this text say that going on moon would be more complicated than injecting human memory into another human life. Not a very good comparison.I'm not a doctor but i'm sure the human body is much more complex that making a spaceship and go to the Moon.I understand the idea of that text, i just wanted to make this remark though In conclusion: These are only theories. If i knew for sure the answer, I'd let you know without writing all this bs ( bs = bullsh*t so you just know from now on ) Scientifically: Well the answer it's very simple. In our DNA there's written an auto-preservation information witch tells us how to survive and how to perpetuate the human species.Money = vital. When you go to shop to get food they ask for money. They don't care how many lives you saved, if you know that Graham Bell was the inventor of phone or how large is the Universe. Real life: This answer it's very simple too: It much easier to steal, scam, watch tv and f*ck than reading a book, making experiences, learning and inventing things that may help the humanity. It may hurt, but that's the truth
wouldn't it be cool if the universe was something like out of starwars ! I like to think there's an afterlife
We don't know how large the universe is and we humans never will. We just can't get that far. We can't even get out of our own milky way galaxy (There's 100s of billions of other galaxies in the universe). Do you know how big our Milky Way galaxy is? I made this image so you can get an idea. And remember, this is just OUR galaxy. There's billions more and even bigger ones than ours. If you could start traveling from one end of our galaxy at the speed of light (186,000 miles per SECOND) to the other end of our galaxy, it would take you 100,000 years. Our sun is a star, and all stars die. Before our sun dies out, it will turn into a giant red star which will cook our earth. (The sun is already expanding and brightening). Earth as we know it today will be gone and it will be impossible for life to live here. Don't worry though, Earth still has a few billion years left before the sun does that too us. After our sun kills Earth, it will still be brightening and getting hotter. And in it's final stage, the sun will collapse into a white dwarf. As far as what happens after death? I really have no idea. I come from a christian family and really really want to believe that we go to another place. But I also have this fear that when we die, we just die and there's nothing else. It's something that we all will find out (or won't find out) after we die ourselves. With a universe like this, and the amazing things such as life that goes on in it.. There has to be a god. P.S. There is life on other planets (even in our galaxy) Maybe not our solar system, but our galaxy is huge. You just know there's life out there. And it's amazing to wonder what they look like and what they're doing this very moment we're doing something such as typing on our computers. With all the other 100s of billions of galaxies out there, our human minds can't even comprehend how much life is out there and how big this universe is.
Have you ever thought that there might be aliens much more advanced than us. I believe there are, unfortunetley. If you start thinking for a moment about our technology you'll find out that we are not advanced at all.. Take a look at touchashleys post above he said that if you reach the speed of light it would still take you a 100,000 years to cross our galaxy. Thats not that good isn't it, AND we are still very far away from achieving the speed of light. As of life after death.. I don't know nobody knows, but I do belive in this: ENERGY can neither be CREATED nor DESTROYED. So when we die our energy will not be destroyed according to this law..... I wonder what happens.....
No one can answer those 2 questions currectly. We don´t know how big is universe.. some says its infinite.. About life after death well it is something good to hope for. As for aliens. there are other living species even in our own galaxy but i dont think they even visited us yet or maybe they are in forms of bacteria? or who knows how they look Some say FBI has a lot of secret resources regarding Ufo's, don´'t believe those sh*ts, they are the one who created those things and behind all those conspiracies. All those Ufo sh*ts we hear or read about on news are fake. You really think some living object travel billionz of miles just to play hide and seek with us?!! Now consider the level of tech they have to fly billionz of miles, then those guys in area 51 catch them hehehe come on...
Life after death Human is a composition of two parts. Body Mind After death, the body will remain here in the cemetery. the mind will go & join with an embryo and get a rebirth as a another person. it might be a human or an animal
He was just answering your question, and in general chat no less. It wasn't like he was changing the subject or anything. For me, I think the questions are unrelated. I find the universe fascinating and wonderous. Scientists seem to think it is continuing to expand, and that there may be a multiverse dwarfing our own universe in size. Regardless, the size is beyond any human's comprehension. I feel that the question of life after death/is there a god, while possibly the most important question there is, the answer is unknowable. People tend to wish for an afterlife because their lives depend on it and it makes the pain of losing loved ones easier to bear. Is my post good enough for you? Or are you going to drive your post count up by criticizing me for increasing my post count by one right now?
I have an academic background and could shed some light on the subject In terms of size or volume it's best to think of the universe in terms of it's energy from it's mass. Energy as we know it can't be created or destroyed it's merely transferred from on state to another. Form all known observations the universe harbors finite energy and not infinite so it's size is also 'finite'. The current problem that astrophysicists and cosmologists are facing is determining its true mass due to the missing matter or 'dark matter' that is said to exist due to gravitational abnormalities observed and the incomplete model of space /time in relativity. If scientists succeed in identifying this then our knowledge on the universe, it's existence, size, mass, age and fate will be better understood. As it stands estimates for the 'observable universe' is set at 46.5 billion light-years, that is a distance of the speed of light 300,000km /sec multiplied by all the seconds in a year multiplied by 46.5 billion the length observed evenly in all directions. further reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Observable_universe If you wish to learn more you can ask a scientist at: http://www.advancedphysics.org As far as life after death I'm still open minded on that one but I personally don't believe there is. The famous Harry Houdini wanted to prove 'life after death' existed by declaring that after his death (1926) he would open a special pair of hand cuffs from 'beyond the grave' to prove that there was a realm beyond our existence. Unfortunately the hand cuffs have yet to open 82 years after his death and there's still a following of enthusiasts who conduct a séance every October 31th (his death date) to aid this 'paranormal endeavor'. Other somewhat scarier phenomena are ghosts or poltergeists who are said to have appeared to many people throughout history. If these sightings could be empirically observed then It could be the evidence needed to prove that life after death really does exist. So far nothing tangible has been proven and the debate on the subject still continues today. further reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghosts ROOFIS
W: Yeah but Houdini was a skeptic. After he died, maybe he had no control over whether he could unlock the handcuffs or not. Maybe he was sent to another dimension or reborn immediately. Maybe God told him the world wasn't ready for such proof, and that even if he was successful, some would still be skeptical and said it was a setup. As for ghosts, I've never seen them, but enough credible people have. Personally I did experience a haunting in my home once after a neighbor's husband passed away. The doorknob in my room turned by itself and snapped back. It was loud and clear, and I was home alone. I can't explain it. Then an hour later, me and my girlfriend heard a loud tapping on the wall in front of us as though a stick were tapping on it, but nothing was there. The sound was from our side of the wall, not the other side, nor inside the wall either. It was crystal clear. Yet no explanation. That's all I can attest to.
At least half the population has had some telepathic or ESP type experience, probably even 70 or 80 percent of the world has experienced it. Yet in labs, it is hard to get consistent results. I wonder why. Surely billions of people can't be wrong about something they personally experienced, including credible people. But yet, why is it hard to repeat the results for ESP? Ganzfeld experiments got amazing results for decades, but for some reason it's not accepted as proof to scientists.
