Why I Hate Gurus

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by David Jackson, Dec 17, 2008.

Last week I purchased a couple of e-books and a software product from three different so-called internet marketing gurus.

Since that time it's been an onslaught of e-mails, one right after the other.

Welcome e-mails, tutorial e-mails, new products launches, past seminars, upcoming seminars, etc., etc., etc.

I received over twenty e-mails from these guys in one week.

Anyway, to make a long story short, they've lost me as a customer. I've unsubscribed from their lists, and I actually requested a refund on two of the three products that I ordered.

I requested a refund because the products didn't come close to living up to the hype.

    But here's the funny part.

I wouldn't have requested a refund if I hadn't been aggravated by the avalanche of e-mails I received. That's what set me off.

Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on this issue.

Well it's no news that most marketing books are dated and don't worth their costs.

I think and ease your being rather unfair. There are a lot of good products out there, but there's also a lot of crap. I do agree though these Internet guru send hundreds of emails. I think a fairly lucky to earn you've got 20 in a week is seems to me that I get 50 at least and I've never bought anything from most of them. New products seem to be coming out so fast now and all these new launches, to they expect people to buy everything?

It's insane and I don't blame you reacting.

I hear ya OP. If I buy an eBook from someone, guess what I want... that eBook, as advertised, delivered in a timely manner - nothing more.

Just because I buy your eBook does not me I sign up to be on your f-ing spam list. What do I care about another unrelated eBook that you might have written.

I am actually currently selling an eBook, and when someone buys it - they get 2 emails from me. One with the eBook itself and another followup email a few days later to make sure they are satisfied and see if they need any help. That's it.

Sorry for the rant; but this bugs me as well.

I completely agree this is the best way to be... lets face it, if your ebook is any good they'll come back for more anyways.

    Dont be a hater

They got you to buy which is what they wanted........

I use what's called a throw away email address for anything I buy online.....ebooks (few) other software programs, websites where one needs to join....DP email notices lol.....anything where I need to give up an e-mail and I feel will be bombing me with their autoresponders.....

    Peace!

Tell me about it dude. I've tried unsubscribing to all lists and there's one I just can't get rid of: Mike Filsaime!! I get a ton of emails from this guy and it won't opt me out!

He even once sent an email out and c.c. 100 other people on there so we could all see each other's email addresses! So much for "we will never share your email address"!!

The gurus making all their money from teaching others how to make money in the same way - it seems an incestuous thing to me. A bit like real estate agents talking up house prices to support their own profession. I think that one day it will all implode on itself and lose all its credibility.

I've realised that the only way to make money in the make money niche is to totally abandon your ethics. It's something that I just cannot do. And, to think, all the gurus on warrior forum claim that they are hyper ethical, when the reverse is true. I trust my fellow man on DP way more than the "Warriors".

    Hi,

I am with Michael here. There are great Internet entrepreneurs who hold to correct ethics and use simple yet effective approaches like Google Ads, online Ads, offline ads.

Yes, there are those out there who are very unethical but it doesn't mean that the only way to make money online thru a niche business or thru online marketing is when you abandon your ethics.

    God bless!

    Hi David,

I don't buy the Guru stuff anymore. Everyone now is calling themselves Guru this or Guru that. However, there are real people who have real knowledge & experience to make money ethically and honestly online.

I usually don't fall for snapshot images of how much this person made which usually is blurred in so many ways than one that I can't really see or really know if it's true.

The only one I really believed was when a real person showed me on his browser, his online Millnic account on how much he made within 10 months. No snapshots, no blurs.

So, don't get into the hype, but take your time reading, re-reading & finding real guys with real product & honest method of marketing.

    Just my 2 cts, bro.

    God bless,
    Josh

What the hell are you on about ? I'll write an argument however I want thankyou very much ! If you haven't got anything useful to say then don't say it at all.

He made a claim so I'm challenging his claim. Wanna roll eyes ? I can do it too

I would have to agree with David Jackson. In my experience, "G,U,R,U" really spells "S,C,A,M!"

To be honest most eBooks come from so called "gurus" who aren't actually gurus at all. If you're looking for marketing secrets or hot new methods you'll usually find those in a site with a members area or members forum.

Most eBooks are helpful and either show you what to do or what not to do. However, 95% of the eBooks on the market in regard to internet marketing are full of material you'd learn better just by reading a popular internet marketing blog.

Stay away from eBooks for the most part. Remember eBooks will always be marketed as LIFE CHANGING INFORMATION when in reality it's just a some ideas along with howto articles pieced together for profit.

Free eBooks are the way to go.

Actually, I didn't buy the e-books for the knowledge. I bought them for comparison. I own a marketing blog, and I write marketing articles. So I have plenty of knowledge.

However, every once in a while I'll buy a few e-books to see how my knowledge compares to the so-called gurus.

Sometimes I learn something that I didn't know before. But more often than not the stuff they're selling is recycled, rehashed and repackaged.

I tried E-books from Gurus when I was first starting and the only thing they did was drop Da Spam Bomb on my email account. I even had to close the account and create a new one. Totall shame...

What i have learned that when someones method stop working and risk increases in that method , they start selling their methods to other and mint some from it . After that we keep crying and they start working on new methods .

I think that they are not gurus at all. They are simply......... I dont know what to call them.

    Can someone help me?

Alot of scammers have destroyed the meaning of guru. So I suggest that you dont claim to be a guru because your visitors will start to run from you.
