I think .me and .tel are as good as any other top level domain. SERP doesn't distinguished domain name extension.
Any domain extension is good for SEO. Its only "type in" traffic that might be affected if opting for something other than .com. BTW, .tel is not your average domain. Its basically used as a contact portal and you can not host a normal website with it. All the back-end job will be handled by the registrar.
I think that these other extensions will take more time to become more 'accepted' and I suspect most people have never heard of these other more 'exotic' extensions like '.me'
I think it's too early to tell. I don't and never will believe that all extensions rank equally in Google - if that were so, then why arent the page 1 results for major keywords filled with .us's, .net's, and .biz's?
