Hey has anyone actually used software like Article Post Robot to boost their rankings?

The site itself only has a PR of 2. :)

Wow, what a useful list- thank you! I have just finished my first 'proper' article so I will have a go at submitting it. Before I do, are there any must do's? Am I right in thinking I must slightly change each one?

I can't stand submitting an article to article directories. For most article submission sites, they make you sign up, and you have to wait for activation. By the time you finish, you waste 5 minutes. Some screw up my link back to my website, so it just becomes a waste of time.

Don't forget to use your keyword in the anchor text back to your website for SEO purposes. I screwed up about 20 submissions because I had my website's title as the anchor text instead of my keyword.

I wish the article directories all used the same script like directories, so I could get used to the process.

The sign up is just a one time task - thereafter you just have to log in and submit. I agree it seems a very laborious , but once you get used to it, submitting articles can be done pretty fast. I can do 200 directories in a day.

You can use a tool like Roboform to do quick submissions.

Dont worry - links count even when the anchor text is not having keywords. There are many sites that dont allow anchor text and I still submit to them.
I have a article directory list here.

Most of these are using scripts either from www.articledashboard.com or from www.articlebeach.com.

If you wish you can submit only to sites using the above two scripts , but you can include high traffic sites like ezinearticles.com , goarticles.com and searchwarp.com to your list.

The PageRank and BackLink craze rages on.....

My suggestion: Write a few 'Very Good Articles' and submit them to carefully selected article directories.

Many of these article directories contain tons of 'garbage' ......If 'numbers' is the game, then why do some of these directories with tens of thousands of articles have very low page rank?

One extremely well written article will do you more good than 100 badly written ones. Why? No one want's to publish a bad article in their blog or ezine....and that's where the real traffic to your website should come from. Publishers should 'want' to publish your article...hence the importance of good writing.

Personally, I don't worry about PageRank or BackLinks, I also do not like forcing things.....I let it come to me naturally....

Just when I thought that one of the few solid ideas in improving your site was to write and submit articles, I find this thread......still I only wasted about 3 hours of my life writing one last night then :D
Since I have done one though, should I submit it, but slightly changed, to sites only with good PR- ie can I do myself harm by submitting this to every site I come accross and using exactly the same content? I have got slightly confused along the way (nothing new there!!) as to the rights and wrongs of article submission.

    1. You didn't waste your time my friend. Just make sure it's a well written and useful article....something people will want to publish in their blog or website.

    2. You don't really need to change it, but it's not a bad idea at all. I usually post my articles to my own directory first then gradually to others....in the process I always find myself refining the article.

    3. Here is a guideline you might want to follow, and I am sure there are many experts here who will add to it.

Article submission is perhaps one of the best ways to leverage your products and services on the Internet....that is, if done correctly, but like Link Exchange, I think it's being abused.

That said, I don't think Article Marketing is about to die. It's alive and strong!

Yeah, writing articles It is a nice idea to increase visitors and pr, however I think when we study a strategy to promote a site, we haven't to think to the Pr, but to the traffic the strategy could generate.

The Pr will come, with the time, but I think traffic is more important.

I just began submitting articles to directories. I have submitted two so far to about 150 directories. I have created a spreadsheet and am very closely monitoring the results: was the article published, did I receive a backlink, did the article include my hotlink in content and resource box, what is the PR of the directory, how many page views has my article received, etc. I plan to continue monitoring the results and to remove any directories that did not do anything for me. It is time consuming, but I think it will save me lots of time in future article submissions. I have removed a lot already. I think when it is all said and done, I will be down to about 50-75 directories that will make the cut. Those are the directories I will submit articles to in the future. Article directories are different than website directories in that I only submit to website directories once and article directories will be a continuing process. Therefore, if I spend a few minutes submitting to a directory and it does nothing for me, no big deal. But, I plan on writing quite a few articles so I don't want to waste my time on directories that will not help my site.

Do you have any proof of this?

Just my experience of article submission and owning a large article site. Granted my article site is not your typical one.

Its good to see your testing this and tracking it, I think what you will find in the long run will be disturbing. It really depends on the directories but I think you will find that article submission to large directories is a waste of good content. Now focused submissions to targeted directories may not be, but the fact that you think 50-75 will make the cut, makes it sound like its not focused.

Make sure you track traffic short and long term since this is what it boils down to.

I for one would be interested in this list of directories.

Have you considered selling the list?

I would drop maybe $10-20 for something like that if I were seriously considering getting into the article writing game.

I never thought of selling the list, but I guess I could consider it.

Well I am just new here...I did article submission, yes it was a long process but it is easy and really promotes and adverstise the site for within the article it explains and gives details and information regarding the site that could be more informative.
