Havn't? Haven't?

Discussion in 'Copywriting' started by SunHunter, Dec 16, 2008.

I just noticed that "havn't" isn't a word, or am I just crossing my eyes or something? Is it supposed to be haven't? I never used it in any articles but use it a lot in chat.

Your eyes are not crossed, the correct spelling is, "haven’t."

Well they are crossed as far as the havn't goes.

Haven't - don't have a clue or have no clue

That's the definition. Is haven't a conjunction for have not?

Yes it is a way of saying have not and technically is the 'not' part of have not that is shortened hence haven't (just like 'don't' for do not).

It is Have'nt. The first part of the word in HAVE NOT remains the same, only the 'not' is shortened..

haven't is the contracted form of have not and it is not have'nt.

    I haven't come across usage of hav'nt.

I suggest you switch to Firefox. It has a built-in spell checker. :)

He already gave an explanation of how and why and then when it was incorrect.........he blames IE and Word.

NFI is the correct assumption here.

Committing that kind of a mistake in the copywriting forum, with a signature message saying "I sell articles", is actually suicidal.

I'm sure it's safe to assume you are more careful with client work than with forum postings :)

I appreciate all the help guys...it's "haven't" and I have done a bit of research and can conclude that it works as a contraction for "have not" so the problem is sold here, thanks.
