    First of all you should get lot of traffic on your forum.... let suppose you should have to promote your forum into social media websites, social networks like as twitter, facebook, myspace, linkedIn....etc and the most important thing is your content and your discussion topics which you have into your forum must be interested.

    Backlinks, make a blog and make plenty of blog posts and make comments on other blogs linking back to your own blog. Exposure will help, so post it on your facebook and send it to your friends on their various messenger lists.
