Bad backlinks

    Can anyone tell me why this website 
    www.freeiphone4u.co.uk
    HTML:
    ranks much better than this website www.freeiphone4me.co.uk for 'free iphone' when the 1st site has no backlinks?

    I thought backlinks were the way to rank high? Are mine bad for my site?
