Was blind but now I see.

OK they did it to a site of mine. Dropped a bunch of indexed pages and one of the pages was ranked for 2 big search terms which it is no longer ranked for. This must be the problem that is causing people to say Google is broken. :(

Welcome to the party. Just wait until google replaces your new pages with old ones from a year ago. Then your error logs are stuffed with 404's. That's when it really gets fun!

That is something. You could take is as an advantage and put 404 redirects to main page :).

Yep. you're right. And that's what I had to do. Of course I'd rather google just put my new pages back and get rid of the old ones. Unfortunately google doesn't listen to anything I tell'em to do. :)

From what I have seen with outhers who have experienced this, the number of pages changes every day and for all I know that page could be indexed tomorrow. Or I can hope it is. ;)

Or direct it to a page with Google AdSense for search (or is that against the TOS?)

I have been reading about Google being broken but it hadn't hit me till today. How long would you say they have been having issues like this?

This is bizzare, google is so big it's starting to crumble on it's own weight?

Amazon and eBay had their problems scaling up. I suspect Google will solve this - if not other - problems.

Some of my rankings are back but the site dropped again in the number of pages indexed. What are they doing over there?

no one can guess what are they (GOOGLE) doing... be sure to keep an eye on competitors and your own stat reports... and slowly slowly you;ll reliase the strategy they are following (MAY BE...)....

The strategy seems to be showing the index and cache from year ago.

You know what it sounds like? You ever had your hard drive crash and had to use your backup data from 6 months ago? Perhaps Google had a major hard drive crash.

That is a good theory. I think the hard drive must be crashing every day for them.
