Meta Tags

    Hello all,

    I have a question regarding meta-tags.

Lets say I am trying to rank in Google for "clothes" & "designer clothes"

In my meta tag I have a few brand names & "designer clothes".

Is it beneficial to also have simply "clothes" as a meta tag? Or is having "designer clothes" enough as clothes is included in this?

    Thanks

meta tags dont really matter but anyway it's better to have simple "clothes" as long as you dont repeat that word harmfully

Use both :D Just avoid too much stuffing of keywords. Metas are not that huge when it comes to ranking. They just help but not a lot.

    yes...am agree with JessieJames

use both KW but not to do kw stuffing and do its combination like Keyword phrase

but mate before that you have to decide which kw is more important and which one is lesser

    bye

"designer cloth" Would be better one as clothes is very competitive.
Long tell keyword always recommended are best for leads generation as well.
Dont waste your time for clothes at it is broad in meaning

Whatever make in meta tag there is no use , google is just ignoring it bcz of too much spam. I thin since 3 yrs g not considering the meta tag expect the met description only for display with title in SERP

Agree that Meta tags now carry very little importance but believe that they are still counted as part of the overall equation.

It depends, do you only sell designer clothing or all brands? If it's only designer brands i would keep it specific to that. If it's all clothing use both 'designer clothes' and 'clothes' but keep the overall meta keyword count down, don't go mad and stuff the meta tag with 50 different keyphrase terms.

Do some good keyphrase research, look for other terms that are equally as important possibly "designer clothing", "designer labels", "cheap designer clothes" etc.

If you could even type the brand name, that would be better. If you search the keyword "clothes" in Google, you'll get 156,000,000 search results. So you're competing against this many web pages. Good luck with that.

But again if you're going to use "designer clothes" as your keyword, you would still get 7,950,000 results. That's still a lot of competition. So my suggestion is use the brand name. More specific the better.

And if you are really going to utilize your META tags, you got to put your keyword in your title, description and in the beginning and end of your article or page. The best keyword saturation is 4-5% of the entire article or page. Otherwise, META tags alone these days would not do much.

    Hope it helps.

    Regards,
    Joseph

Google ranks keywords' synonyms too. Do a search for 'clothes' and you will find web sites with the word 'clothing' in their titles (in bold, which means Google considers 'clothing' the same as 'clothes'). That said, why not use the following title tag?

Clothing | Designer Clothes | Brand Name | Brand Name

That way, you are using 2 versions of the word 'clothes', and it doesn't look spammy at all!

I was reading about metatags and found this:
“The Meta Description Tag is one more way for you to write a description of your site, thus pointing search engines to what themes and topics your Web site is relevant to.”
However they said also with the new algorithms of SE metatags are less important specially for Google.
    So I’d suggest “designer clothes”

By the way, if you use a wordpress blog, it has all kinds of plugins for SEO. I ranked several of my sites in the 1st page for my keywords using them.
