Have you ever noticed how many directory owners say WE, as in "We'll review your submission" when they really are only working by themselves? By saying WE instead of I does it make your directory seem much larger than it really is? I am proud to say I, as it seems to make things more personable. On the other hand, maybe I'm just a dumb ass and don't realize how many directories are run by more than one person. What's your take?
I say I because im honest and simply because it is only me running all of my directories and other sites, its weird and obviously crafty to say we when you know its only you operating it. I dont own a company either, im not an CEO, god thats not even a UK term i dont think either, lol, im neither president, managing director, head of marketing or any of that nonsense. I have no editors, no one on a payroll, no accountant, no solicitor. I only refer to myself as admin, of the directories, blogs..... If someone has a complaint i dont pretend im not the one who deals with the complaint in order to dodge the issue. Its amazing how much more appreciated it is by most paying customers to simply tell them the truth, if your behind on something, just tell them the truth, you delayed them because its only you doing all of the work. Everyone knows when its not we anyway, its funny though to read people referring to we like they are operating from an office with inhouse staff. But yeah, just be honest.
I never really thought about it. I guess that it depends on the context. I probably say we more than I say I because it is we and not I. Follow?
Interesting question and one that comes up quite frequently with my writing clients since most of my clients have been sole proprietors. Some use "we" to make their company look bigger and more professional than it is - two separate issues but not everyone recognizes the difference between the two. Others see a company as being less singular and use 'we' whether they are a sole prop or have a number of employees. I suspect this happens because most would not want to refer to their business, be it a directory or otherwise, as an "it"; so they use the plural personal pronouns instead. I'm not a huge fan of using 'we' to make one's business look bigger than it is. What's wrong with being a sole proprietor? On the other hand, sometimes 'we' looks better in print than "I this" and "I that" everywhere. For my writing business, it is definitely "I this" and "I that" because my customers are paying specifically for my skills and abilities; without me there is no writing business. But, when it comes to my directories, I am more apt to use "we" based on the concept of it being a business and not an "it". After all, my directories could be run by quite a few of the other directory owners here; my writing business would cease to exist without me. The alternative is to write carefully and avoid pronouns completely. For example, instead of "We list only the best sites" use "Only the best sites are listed on __________ directory".
I think that it dosen't matter ... everybody knows that 99% of the directories are "I" operated and only the large ones are "We" operated. So, you choose whatever makes you feel better ..
perfect answer to the question i think you see that line alot becuase its a script. wich isnt edited by the webmaster
i much prefer using we..."WE" is more proffesional... "we will review......" is like saying on behalf of the handlers.......
