To me this is proof that IE is on it's way out. Microsoft have discovered a serious security issue and asked users to switch to another browser. Firefox wins! I haven't used IE for a long time now. They are out of date and they have been setting web design back years. Use this opportunity to switch to FF. Here is the BBC News article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7784908.stm
There's alot of schools, colleges, working places that mainly use IE throughout there whole system. Will they have to switch?
I never believe this kind of news, so I read the news myself and saw that it is not Microsoft that advises people to switch but others (experts, etc.) that do so. OP, don't read news with your ass; read them with your eyes connected to your brain! And others, always be suspicious of what some random guy, called realmuscle this time, posts with high emotions on the Internet. It was clear, from the beginning, that something is fishy in his words. Btw, I am a Firefox user myself.
I am not sure what your problem is. Whilst realmuscle may be some random guy, the BBC have reported the problem. The BBC is one of the UK's most respected news broadcasters. OK the thread title is a little dramatic but the OP provides a link to a reputable source. They have not made this up. There is little comment directly from Microsoft at present.
We hear these same news every other day... I use FF, of course, BUT WHERE *Microsoft* says that? It wasn't in that bbc article.
You are, then, dumber than OP is. Noone says BBC article is wrong. What I am saying is that OP's interpretation of the article is wrong. Like I said before, don't read things with your ass, and get some education before launching into the webmaster business. Trust me, that will help you a lot. You should first learn how to read.
I have a degree in Commercial Law. That being said, perhaps I was hasty in my announcement. I just really hate IE.
Oh it bugs me too when I see overhyped, biased and blatant lies just to draw in readers. Microsoft did NOT tell people to switch [browsers], why would any successful company ever do that? The only quote in the article from them was "Microsoft is continuing its investigation of public reports of attacks against a new vulnerability in Internet Explorer,". You guys do know that Internet Explorer is exploited so much because it's most widely used? Once that scale tips towards firefox or other software, it will become the new target of attack.
Compared to most other browsers IE has got to be the worst out there and has been for quite some time but it does the job well and for most people switching browsers won't really be necessary. This line says it all: No matter what browser you choose to stick with there'll always be security precautions and the best prevention is stay off the internet but, people need to use it so the risk will always be there no matter how small.
Just seen this news on BBC, maybe this will enforce users to get anything else, but IE. dannywwww, true. In my college there is still IE5, and no one is planning to update it.
i don't think Microsoft would TELL people to stop using their browser. that would not be wise by any business. "Users of the Microsoft's Internet Explorer are being urged by experts to switch" nevertheless, there appears to be an issue which i'm sure will be resolved soon enough. "Other browsers, such as Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Safari, are not vulnerable to the flaw Microsoft has identified." well that's good news
I may well be. It is just interesting that you jumped on your little rocking horse and started shouting. Calm down or you may do yourself an injury. 'the webmaster business'. I would not call myself a webmaster. To start with it is pretentious. I run business websites to make money. I have never built a site for anyone, provided SEO services or claimed to be a master of anything. Now lets all have a nice cup of tea and a biscuit.
the worst part is that , till now they are not able to release a update that can fix security flaw found in IE
Typical MS fanboy response. The fact that security experts still advise to switch browsers is not significant to you. Afraid to face the facts?
You can't Compare a OpenSource with IE. While you speak upon Firefox is the best that was basically made for Linux. You never know How much Firefox was Unsafe before. They try to Fix Security risk every day. OpenSource is Open so easy to be pwnd! While IE is truly Sick Slow but safe. I dont give Sh*t to Safari , Maxthon Updated : Opera (even) and what in the heck will a Company would ask its Customers to Switch over its Competitor Company huh?
You're right. Firefox is 10 years ahead of IE8, and IE8 isn't even out yet.]quote] While you speak upon Firefox is the best that was basically made for Linux.[/quote]False. Yes we do. It's published. Look in my links. IE has more vulnerabilities than all other browsers combined. Thank God for that. Unlike Microsoft that waits years to fix some. Think of this. IE has lost 25% market share over the last 3 years and it continues to decline.
Important notice this is to advice all, every member as ive been searching a while ago, i noticed that many blogs post this item "Microsoft Security Advisory (961051) " http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/advisory/961051.mspx This is very useful for every one the information dessiminated is very important. so betterreadthis important notice found. please continue reading with the above url, this is not a spam it is an important notice to the public about microsoft. Published: December 10, 2008 | Updated: December 15, 2008 Microsoft is continuing its investigation of public reports of attacks against a new vulnerability in Internet Explorer. Our investigation so far has shown that these attacks are only against Windows Internet Explorer 7 on supported editions of Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, Windows Vista Service Pack 1, and Windows Server 2008. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 4, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, and Windows Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 on all supported versions of Microsoft Windows are potentially vulnerable. This update to the advisory contains information about a new workaround and a recommendation on the most effective workarounds. The vulnerability exists as an invalid pointer reference in the data binding function of Internet Explorer. When data binding is enabled (which is the default state), it is possible under certain conditions for an object to be released without updating the array length, leaving the potential to access the deleted object's memory space. This can cause Internet Explorer to exit unexpectedly, in a state that is exploitable.
