Would one Gateway increase sales more than another?

    Hi,

I am based in Australia, and currently use Paypal to recieve payments. We are thinking of moving to a Payment Gateway.

As 90% of our sales are from Europe I'm wondering if I get a payment gateway in Australia if it will effect sales due to support for certain cards they may have in Europe.

The Australian Gateway has support for the folllowing cards: VISA, MasterCard, Bankcard, AMEX, Diners and JCB.

Will that be enough for Europeans? Do they use other cards? Are there any other things to consider?

Naturally it is *MUCH* easier to create an Australian Payment Gateway than a European one, but if it will effect my sales....then of course I will have to organise one with a European one.

    Thanks to all....

It's always best to leave paypal and having alternatives wont effect your sales, if anything they will increase.

If the gateway integrated using an API (Your visitors never leave your site), then it shouldn't make any difference.

Depending on your products, you may see an immediate boost when switching to an API integrated payment gateway. If you can, I would also offer Paypal as an alternative payment method. The express checkout or IPN methods both make good alternate payments. In my experience (always dependent on your products and customers) offering credit card payments and Paypal side-by-side, 70 - 90% of your payments will be made directly with a credit card, and the remainder through paypal. There are a good number of people that only use paypal, and there are a good number that will not use it ever.

Oh, for sure. I intend to keep offering Paypal. The question is if there's a difference between getting a Payment Gateway in Australia, or Europe. Perhaps a European Gateway offers more cards??

This would generally be dependent on your processor and not the payment gateway. I'm not sure exactly what is available in Australia vs Europe, but as far as I know, card usage is about the same everywhere, with the exception of Japan, where JCB also plays a big role. As long as you can cover, Visa, MC, Amex and Discover, you should be fine.

    Okay, so here's the situation...

ALL of our customers are based in Europe (at the moment France and Italy, but soon Spain, Germany and Russia and the UK). We are currently working with Paypal which accept the following cards: Visa, MasterCard, Visa Electron, Postepay, Carta Aura, Giropay, EC.

I am thinking of working with an Australian Payment Gateway called www.eway.com.au. They only offer: VISA, MasterCard. Bankcard, AMEX, Diners and JCB. They do offer AMEX which is a bonus.

Can someone...please...tell me if I decide to go with the Australian Merchant (which will be a billion times easier to setup) will be sufficient? Will signing up with a European Payment Gateway (thinking of chronopay.com, or Ogone.com) be better? Will I make more sales?

Does anyone know the European market and what cards they use?

I don't mind going to Europe and setting up a company and bank account there if it will help me...

I really want to speak to an expert about this. Need some serious help with what to do asap.

    Guys....thank you so much.

paypal is just a merchant right?

they do not offer sellers to accept credit card directly. so i wont have credit card number to check fraud attempt.

i'm having paypal account, is there anyway to accept creditcard/paypal and have customer's card number.
