What is Google upto now! ... Got a call from Google!!!

i got a call from Google (presumably Google India) this afternoon .... trying to verify my official site, me and my phone number!!!

wonder what is Google upto now, upgrading their Google Local database .... converting it into more of a yellow pages directory or what????

anyone else got this call???

Was it from Google Adwords or Adsense?
Coz a few months back I got a call from the Google Adwords team confirming my info

 

no sounded more like only Google, ... they said your site is on Google and we need to verify your phone number!!!

It would seem odd for Google to do this? I'd hate to see their phone bill
if they need to call all their adsense affiliates. Maybe the people calling you
are phishing for info on you, they could of got your whois details to do this,
Just a theory though, I'd be cautious about confirming banking details

Never heard about Google updating their database by phone calling. That sounds weird

 

May be they are trying to identify somebody who earns a lot, lol.

 

wtf? we have to login to google to find our earnings so why would google ask us for that?

 

Maybe was Google any way if I was you I be really carefull to just provide my personal info after I really make sure who they really are.

 

I never heard Google calling publishers. Do not share your personal info to anyone. From my knowledge, if they want to know the phone number they can add a new filed/option in our settings page if there is not present already.

I never got any call from Google.. I'm also from India.

Might be an insider known to you.....playing a harmless prank on you..

no,... she just asked me that my (professional) site is "registered" with google, and they wanted to confirm my number!!! asked that i give her my landline, ... but i didnt!!! cell wrks better for me !!!

my best guess was Google local, like (few months ago ) when you type the name of the city with some keywords, you used to get listings from google local,,,, i did submit my site there,,,,

more so she sounded like one of those Indian call centers with new employees
stuterring and stumbling all over the script they've been given ...lol

number was +91-406-697-****, seems like a tata indicom/ airtel number,.... (dont know which series)
(US ... the number routes to Montana)

i stopped using adwords around an year or so ago! i do have adsense!
