What is proxy site and how can I make money from it?

Yes I now its a very nube question but seriously what is a proxy ste and how can I make money from it?

Is it a good investment for a good return?

How much can I make from it and how much do I have to maintain it?

 

A proxy is a web page that provides Internet users with the ability to browse web sites that may be blocked by a content filter, such as WebSense or SmartFilter.

Basically school kids and people in companies have many websites blocked, they use a proxy to get around this.

Return on investment,
a proxy costs the following-
- domain name (2$ info)
- proxy hosting (cheapest one i found are about 1.5$ a month)
- proxy script ( free ones available)
- Advertising and promotion (as required)

What you can make
- adsense
- ads on proxified pages ( affiliate links / banners etc)

maintenance - proxy sites keep getting blocked by the filters, so you have to keep opening new ones, the best way and thats what everyone here does, is to have a proxy network.
A set of say 5-10 sites interlinked and promoted equally.

So basically this isn't a long term money making solution. I don't think a proxy site is worth the time or effort. What do you say?

 

If your target is adsense, then you better create a blog where you can update the content for seo purposes instead of creating a proxy site...

 

Proxy site is used by office worker to bypass the admin block such as friendster and myspace.
You can make money by putting ads code such as adbrite.
Proxy is really easy to earn,my proxy is earning $1/day from each proxy and i have 10 proxy so its $10/day

 

Regarding time, with a proxy and a simple newsletter advertisement (many proxy newsletter providers here) you can get lot of traffic.
And can make easy money.
Not much effort required.

As always, experience is the best teacher. Take any old domain you do not use.
Search for free proxy scripts. Ask around in the forum if someone can give you a "test" host for a month. Then see what effort goes in and what the returns are.

My proxy network (5 proxies) was earning about 2-3$ a day with a 15$ newsletter advertisement sent to about 1000 highschool students.

 

Wow! That's pretty good. I wouldn't mind a extra $150 a month.

Can someone lead me in the right direction on how to get traffic, get a proxy site setup, and start making money.

A step by step help would be really helpful.

I am not sure of a step by step guide. but here's something that might help you.
- Register a few domains (say 3 .info's)
- Google for "cheap proxy hosts" / Advertise on this forum that you are looking for cheap proxy hosts. Register after finding the best deals.
- There are many free proxy scripts, glype, php proxy. download one, modify it with you google adsense, and other ads.
- put ads on your proxified pages.
- Tell your friends and family about it (word of mouth is the best way of advertising)
- Search here or on google for proxy newsletters, pay to get yours added on them.
- There are many sites with a list of proxies, submit your sites there.
- Submit to proxy directories.
- Keep a opt-in mailing list of people who visit your network.
- slowly repeat the steps adding more domains to your proxy and advertising them too.
- always interlink all domains you have.

having proxies is not only a money maker think about before your start:

Proxies are also used to browse illegal websites or for hacking other websites (not really fun)

but its a way to monetize your bandwidth very easy (my oldest proxy is 2,5 years old)

the problem is that in some countries you can get in trouble if your proxy is used for something illegal and it's determined that you didn't take measures to prevent it (as in not being an open proxy). If anything happens you will be the first the police questions any way.

 

I wouldn't buy someones proxy. Start over from scratch so you know its 'fresh'..

 

imo, start looking for answers on your own. Experiencing things yourself is usually the best way to really learn how to do things.

I learned how to utilize Adbrite to its fullest extent, reeling me in $20-25 usd per day in ads alone, while only costing me $30 per month for a server and $5 per year for domains.

You really just can't have someone tell you how to do it, as it takes a while to learn and you usually find new things on your own.

 

proxy are used when you want to visit website which are banned in your location. It is difficult to earn money from proxies because there are lots of competition.

 

thats not true, I think proxies are the easiest way to monetize websites (there so many newbies here making money with proxies)
