Hi everyone I've read on some websites that meta tags are becoming less significant in page rank. Is this true? I still use the description meta tag but is the keyword tag necessary? Are there other meta tags I don't know about that are good for SEO? thanks
As long as you have a good title ag you should be okay. Keywords and description have very little impact on the rankings these days. Apart from have a unqiue description tags does help you get more pages indexed in the search engines, bizarrely.

I say they are important. Not necessarily as much as years past, but they are just one piece of the SEO Puzzle. Also, based on what you see in Google's Webmaster accounts they do pay attention to your meta tags and give you warnings when you are using duplicate meta data. Since they take the time to post warnings about this I would think they at least consider it semi important.
who says it's not usefull to have meta tags he doesn't know what he is speaking about : I tested one of my websites, 1 week without meta tags and 1 week with meta tags - result positive for the meta tags version, so I am saying it's important by experience
