How Many Website Directories do you recommend for submission!

I would like to know through your experiences that to how many website directories, you need to submit your website link. What is the optimal number. And is it worth submitting to directories with poor Page rank. Or is it just a waste of time and effort?

Submit to directories with good pagerank. Lower pagerank are just waste.

I would recommend submitting to about 50-100 directories, and only directories that have a page rank over 3 or 4. Here is a good list of sites, ordered by Page Rank- http://www.addurl.nu

Also, have a look for directories in your niche area (so if you write about cars, find some car directories etc)

Many high PR free directories simply delete free submissions. Some high PR free directories that do approve submissions are using dropped domains and their PR will mostly likely disappear after 1-2 PR updates.

Contrary to what others believe, submitting to the newest free directories works out the best. The reasons are simple. New directory owners want to populate their directories so they review submissions quickly. Since there are few listings in new directories your approved submission will be crawled/indexed quickly by the search engines.

When it comes to free directories it is much better to have a link indexed on a PR 0 directory then it is to have a submission sit for six months waiting to be reviewed in a PR 5 directory. Now I'm not saying to avoid them, but submitting to a high PR free directory list will likely produce poor results in the short term.

My advice is to not chase PR and submit to directories that want your free submissions. Please note that premium directories offer fast reviews and my comments above do not apply to them.

    Good luck :)

You on my my list of members to listen too here. Thank you for sharing!

I'm sure that this is the best directory advice I've heard in a while. (other then submit once & forget ala the ODP)

As a time saver, I do suggest that people stop submitting to directories outside their niche/location. If you have a US based site, don't submit to a french or Chinese directory  and if you have a site about dogs, don't even bother to submit to that wedding directory!

Well snowbird, I would say you are both right and wrong. I know that MFA-sites are supposed to be built for long-term, but I prefer to get fast results. If you are submitting to a lot of new directories it will take a long time before your site will benefit of it. With that said, it's a lot easier to get approved and you may earn more from a PR0 than a PR3 after some time.

Personally I prefer to use old directories with hight PR. Sure, it means more work to get approved, but I think it's worth it.

About the numbers, I would say "The more, the merrier". If it's good quality..

This is what I do for my sites !!

    1. Submit to around 1000 directories after I have some content on the site.
    2. Submit to new directories daily on that announced on this forum and others (vmoptions, v7n etc.)

There is no optimal number, you have to keep doing the submissions around 200-300 per month to derive a decent long term value.

Now this is what I call a real professional answer from a person who knows what he is talking about.

I agree with you without any doubt..

I am currently making 200-250 submission daily for a case study.
You can follow my progress on my blog.

Meanwhile, I do agree with SnowBird's comment: ...submitting to the newest free directories works out the best. The reasons are simple. New directory owners want to populate their directories so they review submissions quickly. Since there are few listings in new directories your approved submission will be crawled/indexed quickly by the search engines.

I am submitting to new sites even their PR is 0 (their PR will grow over the time, treat it as investment) because the approval is almost immediately.

I dont think submitting to low PR directories is waste of time. Someday in future they will be ranked higher and you will also be benefited from that. You should have long term plan. The directory which rank lower is also trying to get higher rank, so it helps in the long run and also lower pr directories will accept your back link more easily.

Lower PR directories also have a higher tendency to fail... but you are correct. The few that are actively trying are certainly worth it.

There are lists posted every month in solicitation sections by me, zexy and dotcompals :)

You can sort vmoptions, directorycritic and directoryroll (my list) by date when directory was added to the list.

when these lists give the pr, is this for the post page or the homepage and will this be any value as a link if it has no pr?
