In order to check whether a website is an authority website or not, all you have to do is lookup the actual domain in Google. If the website comes up with a bunch of "sub-links" underneath it, then the website is an authority site. For example, if you search for DigitalPoint.com in Google, you will see the following links underneath it: Search Engine Forums Webmaster Tools Keyword Suggestion Tool Search Engine Position Tool products services Contact Information Adsense Sandbox Tool More results from digitalpoint.com »
Not true. Most sites have "site links" displayed when searching for them by company name or domain name. Authority sites have site links shown when searching for keywords. This means they are authorities in the keyword topic area. /*tom*/
You are never going to find two people who agree on what an 'authority site' is, so looking for some empirical sign is just a waste of time.
That doesn't at all define an "authority site". That just means the site is well organized and is at least a few months old.
Those sub links called site links and they are mean less specially if they are only showing for the domain name search on Google..! However, it might be a good indicator if they are showing for a very hard to rank on keywords with high search volume
I actually got this information from somebody else so I guess I shouldn't believe everything I hear. Thanks for clarifying this.
One thing I learned from this forum is to be careful who you listen to. There are some very reputable people here that post great comments. On the other hand, there are many "bozos" that post ridiculous stuff
I’ve heard this definition before and have my doubts. If you google my sites name by this logic my site is an authority site.
