How many hours do you spend backlinking per week?

    2 questions here:
How many hours do you spend backling per week?
    and
How many backlinks can you create in that time?

I find that as I jump onto forums and blogs etc to genuinely contribute and take part (and also take advantage of the added bonus of backlinks) I spend a lot more hours reading threads and posts than I first meant to.

I'm sure you're all way more efficient than me - what sort of figures should I be aiming for?

You can easily build backlinks by commenting on blogs that are DoFollow or have the top commentator widget. I can easily build 20 backlinks in an hour while still providing quality comment.

But I have to admit that I get distracted in forums too. Often I spent much more time in reading than contributing to the community.

Around an hour a week at the minute by posting in forums and emailing a few other web masters asking for a link exchange.

I break my link building down into tasks, not hours.

Every morning I look at my Google Alerts to see if there are any new blogs that I can comment on (only that are relevant to my niche and that I can contribute to).

Then twice a week I browse the forums looking for threads that I can contribute something to. If there is nothing, then I move on.

Once a week I try and submit my RSS or URL to directories, usually only doing a handful for about an hour.

Otherwise, I spend more time writing content then anything else.

i have several sites i'm adding links too. I can get about 10 links in about 30 to 45 minutes that are decent, from blog commenting. I don't count forums or social networks like digg.

I try to average about 10 new links a day, which is tough sometimes for me

Great question and one I certainly suffer from, its amazing how interesting conversations are when all you should be doing is getting links in a contextual and non-spammy way.

Personally i try to set myself targets of numbers rather than time... i.e. 30 backlinks a day (split across about 3 sites) spread across forums, links, directories and dofollow blogs. But i suspect I spend too long on this so may try using time spent as more of a target

    very good question though

I spend about 5 hours a week commenting on dp forums and submitting articles
but I do not keep track of how many backlinks I'm adding on a weekly basis.

Buy links and it would reduce the time spends on link building

I have recently realized I don't spend anywhere near as much time on backlinks as I should have. I always put it off in favor of content-generation and code tweaking (but starting to get diminishing returns - hit a plateau of sorts).

Thanks for the blog comments reminders (I always forget about that).

I agree with you. I often forgot other things inluding backlinking because i spent too much time reading the post and replying it.

I end up spending more time on this forum learning things than actually posting.

For blog posting, most of my time is spent on finding good blogs to post on at this initial stage.

Link building is not based on time.
at times I dont spend even an hour oin link building and at times I spend hours.

I use all kind of links blog commenting, profile, forum signature,
I use couple of onlywire accounts for bookmarking ..

the only thing i don't do is content writing that i what i get outsourced..
even Links I get outsourced ...its not important that i should do everything on my own.

Anything changed recently with how much time people are spending on backlink building? More or less? Moved on to other tactics?

It depends from the number of websites you have, also from the purpose you are having these website,
Quite hard to tell, but I spend about 2-3 hours daily in linkbuilding
