Hi, I've just released the beta version of HostRisk.com, a website where people can submit reviews and ratings about the web hosting services that they have used. Please feel free to register and to submit your reviews and let me know what you think about the site. Thanks, Zeegal
Instead of requiring visitors to register before submitting a review, why not just make it an open submission. Lengthy process will turn people off.
You may be right, but open submissions can also generate spam. Peoples can add any hosting company to the site (http://www.hostrisk.com/submit-web-host) and I don't want the same person to submit a lot of reviews on the same host. I have to think to this... Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
Thanks, syndications! I have added a nice option to reward the site users: Every webmaster that write a review at HostRisk will get a FREE text ad for 30 days at Elmera.com (worth $5 - click for details). Please contact us with your ad details (url, link text, tooltip) after writing your review. Thanks!
I think you should make the background of your logo transparent I think it would look better than it looks right now if it was transparent.
You are absolutely correct. I recommend making sure that you stay up to date with the latest versions of Pligg as they come out too. I run a pligg site and mass spamming keeps happening and the clean up is a big pain. Great looking site btw. Best of luck!
Thanks to all of you! But no one has submitted any review yet Micksss, yes the site is based on pligg, but it is highly customized so there's no way to upgrade to another version. I have implemented my own anti-spam methods; the user registration and the "admin users" sections are a lot more complex than pligg. __ Btw, I have forgot to specify that your site link will be added at the end of each review, so this is another benefit of posting your review at HostRisk.
I have increased the time of the free text ad to 45 days. Elmera.com has a traffic rank of #71,501 at Alexa (around 4000 pageviews/day), so it's a good chance for everyone to get some free traffic by posting a short review at HostRisk. Also, I have disabled the email verification, so the registration only takes a few seconds.
