Where can I find a good one? The ones I have tested either only allow you to use them for very small sites, or create junk that google can't use
Fryman...have you tried: http://johannesmueller.com/gs/ It's pretty slick, it makes Yahoo sitemaps too. J
Hey fryman, Here's a free one. I'm not sure if it suits your needs. http://www.auditmypc.com/free-sitemap-generator.asp Skinny
Thanks Jester, I'll check it out Skinny, I used that one once, submitted to google sitemaps, and got an error a few hours later saying that the sitemap wasn't able to be used.
i recommend you this xml-sitemaps.com i utmostly agree that this is one of the best and most comprehensive sitemap generators i ever tried. about the erring of your sitemap submission, you may likely put your sitemap on the base and the most accessible directory. also, be sure that you generate such sitemap on the base URL itself.
Hmm, that's too bad fryman. It's worked fine for me. Is it because you have tons of pages that need indexing? Skinny
I second Gsite Crawler. All of the online tools and most of the software apps crash on very large dynamic sites. Gsite is the only tool that I have had success with. (takes forever on large sites though....)
There's a sitemap generator over at http://enarion.net/google/phpsitemapng/ which is pretty good. Its xml, php-based, free, and once you get the hang of it, its easy. (there is a support forum which will actually help you. Correct server path, being the only thing that caused the majority of issues). I read that its good for up to 100,000 pages, but can verify through experience, that it manages 4000 pages without problems. It can be styled (css), if you'd want that.
AutoMapIt.com does sitemaps and more. It has been used on very large (50,000+ page) sites successfully, but it takes a while to get the first map with all of the 'extras' (page analysis, link checking). If you have a very large site, request that the extras be turned off and that will help speed it up some.
