if someones website/domain is on a website (as a link or something) and they contact the owner . . . and ask/state to be removed from the website, what can happen if the website owner refuses to remove the website/domain ?

In my Honest opinion, Nobody asks you to remove their website link from your site. That doesn't work that. There won't be any problems if you refuse to remove their link on your site.

Or are you talking about getting your site links removed from those SPAM sites?

I think he's talking about copyright infringement, like if you register watchJamesBond.me or something like that they might contact you claiming trademark violations. In that case, yes, you would have to remove it to be in the clear with the law.

Why would you want a website to remove your link from them? That is free advertising. If its spam or adult content or something like that, then I could see it, but other than that, don't bother, free links are good. This is a gray area for me though, you could always try looking up www.copyright.gov and research the copyright law there. But I believe they would have to.

I honestly don't know, this is very confusing because who can enforce the law on the internet? If someone is outside the US, like in China, how can the US government or any government make them take a link off the website, It also could be freedom of speech in a way... Hmm. I'd talk to a lawyer..

A serious business won't bother dealing with a link on a random site.

Not the US government. You'd have to take them to court in China, by Chinese laws and with a Chinese lawyer.

Anyway linking to somebody is most probably not illegal. Don't think there is a country where it is. There is nothing you can do mate.
