Is religion really the bad thing?

I understand that the argument religion is used to justify violence acts and such. Or gets people to do things that are not really rational. It's is true that some people do manipulate religion to advance own agenda.

I'm not in disagreement but could it be that it is not the religion that is the problem. But the nature of humans which we do that. If religion is abandoned it is quite possible that people will just take on something similar to replace it. If you think about it patriotism is not that different from religion in some aspects.

 

I think you are right in theory. Because technically people aren't out there on the battlefield shooting people with "religion".

Sure it's a tool. But a nuclear weapon is a tool as well.

Religion itself isn't just a tool used by bad men though. It is the root cause of nearly all wars. Weapons and other tools of war don't cause wars. Religion does.

Sure religious leaders can use religion to whip people into a fervor. But people go out and sacrifice their lives because of their love for their religion. Not their love for the person who told them to be angry.

Sure if you get rid of religion it's possible that we may find another reason to kill ourselves on the scale that religion has (not likely). But then again with religion in place in it's current form we'll not have that opportunity to find out.

 

Religion is very important in our lives.

Even if religion did not exist, we will still find a reason to kill each other.

Ya, exactly. It's a tool and even if it didn't exist humans are inventive and adaptable. We'll just think up another tool. You say that religion is the root of all evil, I think you will have to put patriotism right up there as well. Their used by politicians in just about the same way, except it's not getting bashed like religion is nowadays.

A majority of religious people are not "warmongers" by any means. It is the groups that "say" they are associated with a religion and twist it to there use.
