I guess it's just too much effort these days to move your mouse to the top of your browser window to type in an address. At most you'll save typing a couple of letters searching in Google. :)

haha, that is exactly what I do many times, I'm not good at spell out the domain names in the bar, usually with the long names and by typing them in the Google search box, it will corrects the names and it will save me times.

Actually, I didn't think of it from a spell check perpective. You've got a valid point there.

It's funny that google will count that as a referral to facebook as well. Whilst technically true, I feel it's kind of cheating when people are typing the name of the website into a search engine. i.e. makes google look better than it actually is.

Doesnt Firefox query google whenever you type something like 'facebook' into the url bar, then take the first hit? And can't you set the new internet explorer to do that? That would explain why that is happening.

Is there a way of determining top searches on Google, on a monthly or weekly basis, without having to wait for their year end results?

Something like that would be very helpful for content writing for various niches.

Jeez, have these people never heard of Bookmarking your favourites?! Esp the kinda sites that you use every few days. Would take all of two clicks!

Am quite surprised by these results, thanks for sharing.

Wow, the top searches are quite simple words.. You can just write ''youtube'' or ''facebook'' in the location bar and it brings you to the website, but people write it in google.. it's like ''well, i don't remember the URL of youtube so I'm gonna google it''. But, I do it too.. LOL
