Bartering system with an ebay like interface

Do you think a bartering system like ebay would be good? If you could do all three barter, auction and buy at fixed price, so you can always get a good deal. what do you think? I think it would be great for students too with little money, as well as exchanging business services. Your thoughts please

 

Straight bartering doesn't work, you need some universally accepted exchange medium

Maybe, I don't know. What I am saying is that bartering rarely works. Usually either you don't need service/product the other person has to offer, or he doesn't need yours, or both. Or the value of his service/product is not equal to yours. (So they invented money)
Points might work, but I don't see what would be the advantage over using money? If you can think of something, it could be an idea. Say, money loses value over the time, and not all currencies are liquid. If you can think of something that doesn't have these disadvantages, like if these points can be exchanged for something that all your users need?
