How to up my ranks in search engines.

I was wondering, how exactly do you up your website in the search results. I know great content and what not is a big help, as well as backlinks and such. The thing I'm confused about is how it works since my business name isn't very common and it doesn't show up when I search for it.

Maybe I need to re-submit my site to the main searches to crawl again?

    Thanks for any help.

If you don't show up for your own business name, then something is certainly wrong. Get some links that point to your site. The text of those links should include your business name.

When you build links you will want to focus on whatever products or services you provide. For example, Joe Inc. has a pooper scooper service. Links pointing to his site are best if they read "pooper scooper service." There are many variations of this keyword and other keywords that will generate qualified traffic. Go to the URL below and search for the main product or service you offer. It will suggest other keywords you may consider using along with monthly search volume estimates. This way you don't target any keywords people don't search for.

It is important to note that any keywords you wish to rank for should appear on your page. Some onpage SEO may be needed to get you up to par. It's hard to tell without knowing the URL of your site.

    Good luck. :)

The general feeling I'm getting when researching this topic is that maintaining your SEO is crucial, spend an amount each day to develop and implement a new SEO technique.

Develop your internal linking and keyword focus.
Extend your backlinks throughout Higher Ranking sites/portals/blogs/shops.
Be dynamic in your development of SEO so that you're constantly making an impact in some way, even if it's small.

Of course, a lot of us are in the same boat as you - like me - and have a lot to learn about SEO.

I find it funny that alot of people on this forum try to answer people's questions without actually answering the initial question and just type a response just for responding sake.

If you want to up your ranking in the search engines its all a matter of knowing what you want to be ranked for..

Do the research and find search terms related to your website that are searched for alot and arent extremely competitive.

You can utilize Google Keyword Tool.. Its free and you will see what Google's results are for various search terms.

You can start off with your business name if you like, in fact that is a good place to start. Try to optimize your website for those search terms you found to be good keywords and optimize for your business name aswell.

Because you said that your business name isnt very popular and isnt searched really means that it is not competitive and you can get ranked way easier for that keyword. The higher you rank is the more important your website will be to Google so its good to go for the easiest term first and build a reputation with Google and then move to expanding to the other keywords that are related to your website.

So if I were you and wanted to go up in ranks I would generate as many backlinks as I could for my business name aswell as about two other major keywords related to my website.. Change your signature url's and anchors on all the forums you are apart of to the URL of your business website and change the anchor texts to your business name and in no time Google will notice your website related to those keywords.

The second thing I would do after that is.. go ahead and search the terms that you wish and hoped to get ranked for and go and visit your competition's websites and if you use Mozilla FireFox like I do you have an option to right click on the page and go to 'page info' and then click the tab 'backward links' and a Google search will pop up showing you which websites they find important that are linking back to that particular website. What I do is see which one of those websites I can possibly get a link back from.

Thats actually how I found this forum.. one of my competitors had links going back to their website from this forum.. and then I saw that this forum had a HIGH Google PR. The rest is history after that and now I have links back to my website coming from this forum.

So its not hard to generate quality back links you just have to have the right strategies and work it. I hope I was of help to you today because you can really increase your ranks in the search engines with one week of hard work.. just generate links, submit to directories, publish articles, contribute on forums and build link partners and you will see results. Over time just continuously build links and add fresh new content to your website and you will see your results increase every single month.

Thank you.. that was really informative and helped me out a lot with understanding. Added rep. Two quick questions for you about this though that I'm curious about is:
    1. Is any back link good?
    2. And will back links only help with my SEO for my certain terms if the Anchor text is included, or could it find it without the anchor texts?

Thanks a lot!!! I appreciate it!

Any and every back link isnt good.. if you are just collecting random backlinks then it doesnt look like you are actually building links with websites related to yours it just looks like exactly what you are doing.. building random backlinks.. but links from websites that are already listed in Google show that your website is reputable.

Get links from websites that relate to yours and are listed within the search engines.

The links with the anchor text are working to get you listed for the specific terms in the anchor texts and the ones without the anchor text will only get you found for the term in your domain name..

JBMedia, I think you will need to figure out what's the right keywords that you should optimize your site with.
Go for the one that have relatively higher search frequency and figure out how you can have the top ranking for the keyword that you are targeting.

And no, you don't have to resubmit your site to the search engine.
