no more blog posting for me, I always leave a worthwile comment but now I cant post anymore as I am labelled a spammer. Is there anyway around this?
I also agree, I think the latest update of Askimet is really making blog commenting not a fun thing to do. I also always try to make a really comment, not crappy ones. But now many times I am labeled as a spammer. Anyone else might know to get around this? Please share.
Read this blog post. It should help you out. When you comment on blogs, use your real name (first name is cool). Keyword stuffing in comments is frowned upon by bloggers unless they are using the keyword luv plugin.
Yep. Akismet blocks domains. Frankly, I hate the company. I have not left one comment unrelated to what a blog post was about and somehow was banned for my acne site...
I tried to never use it on my blogs but it got so bad from spammers that i had to implement it. It has made checking comments much easier. There is a way for the blogger to check and move spam comments if they are spam but if you are spamming all over, it will block you. Doing hundreds of comments in a day will surely get you blocked. the best way to to find related blogs and comment on something you are really interested in and not just post hundreds of comments for just the purpose of getting back links.
Try finding some Drupal blogs, a lot of them dont use Askimet. use these search strings in Google. "Web page addresses and e-mail addresses turn into links automatically" "Remember my personal information" "Notify me of follow-up comments" Also try using a a domain that has not been flagged my Askimet and put your link in the comment field or sign you name after the blog comment and link your name with your site. This also works on a lot of blogs that are no follow as the comment field is do follow.
I have a questions, maybe snowbird can answer !! Can you now make another domain / subdomain and 301 redirect it to your original domain? Use the new domain/subdomain for comments, you will bypass Akismet and still benefit from comment links
jitendraag that would indeed work. But it could get costly if one needs to replace domains. Akismet is not an evil company but they are caught in the middle. Blog owners want protection from spam but they still want legitimate comments and a viewer base. Akismet will unblock you if you are kind in your request and follow any suggestions they may have to offer. My advice to anyone that does not want to get blocked by Akismet or be known as a spammer: 1. Use your real first name when posting. 2. Write useful comments and check your spelling before submitting. 3. Never enter your URL in the comment field unless it is 100% applicable. 4. Don't comment on old blog posts. Blog owners are not fools. They know which of their blog posts have PR. Some blogs use keyword luv and you can enter your name and keywords as: Joe@My Keywords That's about the only case where keywords should be used in the name field.
I followed the blog link which gives details about contacting Akismet, today i had an email from /mark at Akismet and am now off the list
@snowbird: I must spread some reputation before I can give more greens to you ) There are plenty of sites like tinyURL that will work for this purpose (you don't need a new domain). Even some SB sites will 301 redirect to your site / page and you can use an SB site URL for blog comments.
@ sarkin ruwa Glad everything worked out. @ jitendraag I'm not convinced using a URL redirection service would work. Akismet may block these sites if they have been used by spammers before. And Google can be picky with 301 redirects coming from URL forwarding services as well. Also the blog owners may get suspicious if they see a tinyurl link. It's best to contact Akismet directly and be honest with them. Even if software like xRumer was used and got the domain blocked, Akismet will give most people another chance if they agree to comply with basic commenting rules.
You have a point. I am not a big fan of blog comments (yet) Was wondering if people can fool akismet this way, but akismet can of course put another check for 301 redirects.
Personally I wouldn't know what to do without this plugin. You dont know how many times I log in to my account and see the "Interesting post" spam comment. I love them.
