If you had to pick between submitting your web site to 200 directories or say purchasing 200 blog back links with achor text whch would you do?

Also I am not excatly sure how it works. Whenever I submit to a link directory it never comes back as a back link when I use services that show the amount of back links you have for your site. Can someone tell me why that is?

I would go for 200 blog links if I get a review on blogs with decent traffic because these will be contextual links. I normally submit to free directories and also get blog reviews to strike a balance.

You must be using link:domain.tld on google, you can see directory links in yahoo site explorer or google webmaster tools.

Never place all your eggs in one basket - diversify your approach to link building and go with some of each.

It's always a good idea to check if the page you're submitting to is cached by Google recently. If the page hasn't been crawled you'll not get a backlink form it.

i'd go for blogs definitely. Some related content and less links on the same page. If I were google I'd rank it higher lol :D

Agree, try to make it a bit equal. Get the best directory in the list and choose the blog with more traffic.

Blog links would be better. As they come from specific niche, they are more relevant.

I think now submission in directories is worthless. You will never get enough traffic through directory submission.

Thanks for all the feedback. I wondered myself what kind of traffic I would get from directories. I think I will do some of both. One month work on bakc links. The next directory submissions, the next article submissions. Sounds like a sction plan to me!

I also Prefer the 200 Blog Links. I thinks the Blog links are given the better traffic then the directory links.
