Have anyone had luck getting into DMOZ?

Not sure if they are still taking submissions.

Buy already DMOZ listed domains or sites, else pay some DMOZ editor or wait for a few years.
However you can get lucky and your site submitted to DMOZ approval in hours. The prob is the luck is hard to find.

I guess the delay is mostly related to the category you are submitting in...

Once submitted, will DMOZ send you an email telling you, your site was submitted into the directory?

I don't think that dmoz ever notifies you of any actions they take.

DMOZ editors are advised not to communicate with webmasters so I very much doubt you'll get any confirmation.

@Freewebspace, I think you'll find that any editor who accepts a bribe will be quickly dealt with. It is certainly against the editor guidelines to do that.

Absolutely no question about that. And what's more, any site owned by the briber is permanently banned from being listed.

There are many directories where you can pay to have your sites listed, but DMOZ is not one of them. And before anyone starts with the well-worn refrain, yes I'm sure bribes have happened, and they will continue to be attempted, but really, is it worth the risk of having ALL your sites banned?

No. This would be a waste of volunteer time, because if your site is listed, you will be able to see it for yourself. :)

Far and away* the most common reasons a particular site is not listed (whether suggested or not) are
    1. No volunteer has looked at it yet.
    2. The site does not meet the Selection Criteria

Further down the list of reasons are that the site has been moved to a more appropriate category for review, or that an editor has asked for a second opinion about where, or if the site should be listed.

*The possibility of an editor deliberately excluding a site for some abusive reason, without being detected, is almost unbelievably remote, but for some bizarre reason it remains the most popular theory, despite the overwhelming evidence in favour of the 2 reasons I have given above.

To return to the original question asked in this thread:
I have added nearly 25,000 sites to the directory in my few years as a volunteer, and many of my colleagues have made similar contributions. But I can confidently say that only a tiny percentage of those 25,000 sites were suggested by other people.
Does that make those people more "lucky" than the owners of the non-suggested sites I listed, or vice versa? ;)

The only "guaranteed" way to get into DMOZ is to become an editor for the category you want to submit to. Some people literally become editors just so that they can submit their own website. If they don't accept you as an editor, see if you can contact the editor for your category. They might be nice enough to accept your website. If they're corrupt, they might try to charge you for acceptance knowing there's no way you can prove that.

I got listed in the beginning of the year. It was accepted in about a month from submitting. No big secret, all I did was submit and forget. the only way I knew was I had a hit from DMOZ on my traffic stats. It did nothing for my site and besides a couple of early hits, most likely from editors, I have received nothing from them. they do not even show up as a back link.

It is not worth the worry so many seem to create. Submit forget and move on to the next directory.
