Yea, not that important to google the only thing they have relying on it is the fundamental backbone of their search technology.

 

I am not agreeing with the first statement saying that PR has no purpose however I can answer the question you are posing.

Google would spend the money for PR (publicity) just imagine how much publicity Google gets just from the talk and debate about pagerank.

Its quite funny actually but perhaps this was Google's intentions in the first place. To make a ranking system which seemed to have no real point to cause a fuss amongst the new players of internet marketing and the more experienced players who generally say that pagerank has no real meaning.

Perhaps it is a little joke between Google staff and thus is why they called it "PR" considering PR also means Public Relations and is meant for developing publicity. They may of decided to call it PR for that reason and put a different meaning for it this being Pagerank.

Just a theory

 

Honestly, the question is being framed wrong. Of course, PageRank is of some importance. If the question is, is PageRank the most significant factor for rankings, the answer is hell no? If it was, all SERPS would be returned in order of highest PR to last, and they certainly are not.

That said, most people would rather have a PR8 page then a PR2.

 

we have droped many back links, but Page Ranks still same for all websites.

 

Its happening and its not a good google update for me.

 

I can't see any change in my sites PR. Also I care more about making money than this Aexa Rank and PR updates. I make $300 a month with a cellebrity site of PR 0. I feel it weird to see this kind of threads about PR.

If the google pagerank is updating in last december so what is the best time to buy domain with high PR, before or after updating???

Has anyone noticed an increase in PR? If not I think it's just minor tweaks adjustment before the real PR update.

 

Last night one of the forgotten/ignored sites lost the PR and I thought it is normal. But otherwise I haven't seen any update as such.

 

no changes here! I think its not just the real update. I really hate when I'm waiting to PR update! I used to say that don't expect PR update just allow it to come but now I'm waiting to that event.

 

there have been 2 (maybe 3, forget) of these small ones, inner pages etc, prior to this, since the last proper export.
