Hello. I was just wondering what your opinions are about the new video ads. Are they worth it? Or are they not.

Haven't had a chance to look at them yet. Best thing to do would be to put them on a couple of your pages for a couple of days and see if they convert

I tried the 336 format but after a week not one video ad.
If anyone has a site with them I'd appreciate it.

I must say that I am hesitant to even try them.

However I recently came across a site with a video add showing. It pains me to say it but I was tempted to click it and watch the add. The only thing stopping me was my ingrained resistance to clicking AdSense adds. Bad mouse, bad mouse!

I'm under the impression that people are getting used to seeing and clicking that little 'play' button on websites like youtube, metacafe and even Google video. If people (including me) associate that little 'play' button with entertainment, we may be pleasantly surprised at the results they may produce.

I think i'm going to sit back and watch for a little while on this one. But I won't be surprised if they exceed my low expectations.

The only issue there is you don't get paid for them playing it but rather clicking on the little url link :/

I fairly certain that to get paid the user need to click on the ad area where the video shows

Sorry dude, I don't remember what site it was, I tend to wander aimlessly sometimes.

I haven't seen one of these adds after they are activated so you're probably correct. Although if I was working for Google I would put the link in the main video box after the add had finished playing (not sure if this is already the case) Then if clicked you would get paid for it. If the adds are entertaining enough you'll probably find a higher CTR, but its that initial hurdle of the video add started.

I suppose when you look at the other side of the coin, Google has to be selling this new form of advertising to advertisers. What possible benefit could this have for them? Perhaps more of their adds shown with less money paid. But its in their interest to get traffic to their site, unless they advertise phone numbers of physical locations. I'm under no illusions that its AdWords first and AdSense second.

    Am I completely off track?

Do they pay you if visitor play the video (you know - like CPM), or just for clicks

advertizers are charged only for clicks not simply playing the movie so publishers only get money if the user clicks on a tiny url. I am positive this will induce a huge drop in CTR but in the same time I think that only very high paying videos will show if they are to compete with regular ads. Morale: there won't be big changes in earnings, just a variations to ads people are getting used to see.

I do believe that the images will catch the eyes but after trying for a couple of days the videos were found to be of little interest to me at the moment since the number of available videos are not many.

    Video Ad Earning Facts:

Site targeted video ads are CPM just like all AdSense site targeted ads - you get paid per display.

Keyword CPC ads do not earn for playback, only clicks on the main image area just like normal CPC AdSense ads. The playback earns nothing in and of itself.

    Hope this helps.

Sorry for being off topic but is there a way to switch between getting paid per click or by pageviews or is these randomly given out by google? I am talking about ofr any kind of ads though.

I think if you search the Google help pages and DP you'd find your concrete answer - or start a new thread.

Off the top of my head while you can turn off the "advertise on this site" message which helps folks target your site with CPM, to only accept CPC I think you must write AdSense support.

Otherwise, they send it all to you according to what they claim is with the highest earning ads going your way...

don't make a decision about it until you take a careful look at your stats.

you'll be able to see just how many site-targeted ads you are getting.

You get earnings for impressions only if someone targets your site. In that case google will show those ads if the amount per 1000 impressions exceeds your eCPM. So you have no control other then allowing site targetting or not.
I don't see any reason to disallow site targetting if it is not from a competitor.

I find that I earn nearly 4 times less ecpm with site targeted ads than what I do with normal pay per click ads plus the site targeted ads make my site look cheaply made.

Can you actually turn them off?

i would leave the site-targeted ads on your site, but just improve the ecpm enuf so that they don't show up.

in other words, use the site-targeted ads as a barometer of how well your site is doing... just be aware that the quality of the ads that google serves up to your site can drastically affect the ecpm, so it's the average over a period of time that you are looking for.
