    Hi,

I heard many people these days are starting blogs. I want to know what's the difference between a blog and a website? And which one is better to have in what sense?

blogs are lot easier to setup but it doesn't really matter which one you have. main thing is traffic and traffic=revenue. more traffic you have, more impressions you will have on your adsense ads and more money you will be making.

a website is a website which i think you know already. a blog is a web 2.0 platform that runs of some kind of content management system (CMS) where you can write articles and publish. the built in database or CMS stores all the publications in place and categorized. there are several popular blogging platforms but most widely used blogging platform is wordpress

I always thought a blog was a website. You can accomplish exactly the same with either... the difference is how you do it... with a blog just being a tool. ;)

A website because you don't have to keep updating it.

I have just moved onto blogs, from owning a few websites. A few days ago I wrote an article and within just 30 minutes, it was indexed by Google and this would have never happened in the old days with my website. Just seems very easy and efficient using blogs, alot of web users look out for fresh, new content... problem being, that you have to publish daily, to keep up with the rest of the field. I know alot of people opt for Wordpress, but I choose Google's Blogger every time. It is just so manageable and simple to use. Don't understand why people go on about the sub domain, as Blogger allow you to transfer your account onto your own, in less than 2 minutes. I guess either will do; it all comes down to content and traffic.

This will not sit well with some people but static sites are easier to manage if you're not updating the content regularly. Wordpress/Blogger obviously has inherent benefits so it comes down to personal preference. You can do great with both.

Here's a great web 2.0 video that explains the difference between old fashioned 'sites' and newer sites (using CMS, etc.) - I thought it was entertaining and educational (and might help answer your question)!

One thing I would caution folks with when it comes to Wordpress ( which certainly is preferable with some sites/goals ) is that it gets upgraded regularly and things can tend to break with your host. It's not uncommon to wake up one morning to find your site is offline with an error a newbie/less technical person can make no sense of without contacting support or trawling online. Also themes can run into problems with upgrades when you put them live. Last but not least Wordpress still has some security flaws that people like to exploit and so also be prepared for a site to get hacked every now and again. Static sites are much more robust but don't have inherent advantages that wordpress does. It all comes down to personal choice and what you want from that site.

Blogs rock if you have mature audience. But they are also frustrating when you keep pumping articles and fail to attract comments.

I used to build websites (code them from scratch and stuff), but lately I've turned to the magic of Wordpress. Why spend hours (or days, or months) working on a website, if you can do it all in 15 minutes.

Blog is a website too but then, I think computerstudent is actually discussing about static website and blogs.

Well, search engines love websites that are updated regularly. So, I would recommend you to use blogs because they are easier to manage and you can update the content easily.

I think on static websites, content management is a hard task. where as in a blog it is a ready-made option for you.

websites are easier to run (normally) but blogs can be easy to run
i probably prefer websites but i have a website and blog and the main thing i like about blogs is the 125x125 ads they normally sell easily

Main difference between BLOG and WEBSITE are :
Blog is very easy to prepare than website....

In blog each function's understanding is very easy than preparing a website.

Blog has no cost to launch but in website you have to pay small amount for launching site.
