Do you pay moderators?

hello guys, i was wondering if most forum admin pays their moderators? is it a norm to pay moderators? i mean, isnt being a moderator a privilege given by the admins but in return must help in maintaining the forum?

 

I have two moderators on my webmaster forum and they are both doing it voluntarily. I have never needed to pay for moderators.

 

Nope, I don't pay my moderators. They do it voluntarily because they like my community. Moderators come to you - if they want to, so you don't have to pay.

 

I am a moderator on a big forum, there are nine of us, none of us get paid, although I think it's important to have some kind of reward. This year we are all expecting a bottle of whisky at christmas! lol, I think we're dreaming!

 

I dont think you can say its a "reward" to be a mod. They just do what others then would have to (the admins etc). But many works for free

 

Becoming a moderator is a privilege on some forums. I think that's enough motivation for some.

 

i paid my mod with rapidshare premium account which i got account for free (collection point to exchange free account) and they (mods) all are happy

 

I see moderating as a privilege and there is no need to pay mods.

 

It all depends on your members. If you have members that will mod for free then you are lucky. But if you don't you might need to get some outside help, and you might have to pay for it.

 

Agreed. If you pay a moderator - its not a *true* moderator as that member is probably not even interested in the community.

 

That is not true. If you hire the right person for the job, you will get an excellent moderator. You just need to find a person that can do the job well and take it seriously. If they are good, they will soon become a valuable part of the community.

I am a moderator on a US site and i get payed a reasonable amount every month,the money is transfered by PayPal and both parties are happy especially me at the moment because of the $/£ at the moment.

 

It really depends on your forum and how badly a moderator is needed.

If your forum does produce a good amount of money and needs moderation, I guess you could monetarily reward your mods. or at least have some sort of promotion for them once in a while, like a contest just for them etc.

If not, then most people will be satisfied with the position without pay. I've been a free mod. before and did it as I liked that particular forum so I didn't mind.

 

I've seen quite a few places over the years that give moderators perks like free personal hosting accounts to host files on, first dibs on paid work that needs to be done around the place, SEO-related benefits, and stuff along those lines.

I've heard of a few places that pay moderators that are more like cruise directors than they are moderators, but I've never stuck around any of those people to see how things went.

 

Offering features on site is the best thing to do with moderators, paying is really just stupid.

If you don't have time at all, getting/paying an admin is another option.

 

I agree with you 100% but in some cases I think it is always nice to get a "Bonus" somehow

 

Normally, I do not pay my moderators either.

However I send them gifts for the holidays and give them an occasional bonus (as I said many times before. Be Generous)

But yes. Being a moderator is a privilege to many people. Moderators have "the power" and many people enjoy being high ranked on large forums...

 

Normally when people pay there mods, they either need posts by the mods too or it is a really large forum that takes a lot of work.

3 years and now I am looking for a paid moderator work . in general , I do not post for
the payments . I am well known for smelling and killing of the spam !
