How much for a custom-coded CMS?

I am developing my own CMS with all common features plus some bonus ones. How much do you think I should charge? It's a complicated script, not an overnight-made one and it's also extremely easy to apply your HTML template with it :)

I know I haven't given enough info, but it would be nightmare to list all the features here :(

If you want a lot of sales my advice is to fix a promotional price live 39$ or something near
Btw: no offence but cms's are not trendy more

Most are free. I wish you lots of success. Please just take a few minutes to at least add your top 10 features.

    :)

Thanks for your advice, how about a shopping cart or an entertainment (used for quickly creating a music, video website) script instead? :)

It all depends upon the quality of your work.

    Some of the factors are:
    1. How user friendly is the interface.?
    2. Will you be providing future upgrades..?
    3. Do you have a support team?
    4. How different is your CMS from the other top CMS in the market?

Not only CMS, but the above applies to any application you wish to sell as a product!

Are you selling the CMS to web developers or using it for clients? That will make all the difference in the pricing. It would be good to target locally also where less people know about all kinds of CMS's who do their web research.

It depends a lot on who makes it for you. A custom made CMS 100% from scratch could take a few months to make (depending on the features you need and the size of the development team). Also it depends who is doing this for you. If you get it done in the US where software developer wages are $100k+ a year or in eastern Europe countries like Romania where they float around $10k a year :) Obviously such a company would charge you a lot less because development costs are a lot smaller.
A reasonable way to calculate a price would be:
number_of_developers*number_of_months_required*(salary_per_month+taxes_payed_for_each_employee)+other_costs_like_rent_and_whatever + taxes + profit_margin. The decisive thing in the equation in salary_per_month. The rest are insignificant.

    Thanks for your suggestion :)
Is there any other place beside DP in which I can post my sale thread, it shouldn't cost me anything to list too?

The team only contains me and some of my good friends, we create it from scratch and thus no cost hiring anyone involved :)

Sounds like a cool project. I have developed several CMS websites myself and it didnt took me very long to get it done, because of the power of ASP.net. Just have a look at www.yr925fm.com as this website was built for a customer of mine and they have full access to add new content. They can even upload the music videos, which are hosted by youtube, dailymotion and have it displayed on the site.

If you make a good product you can sell it, just have to market it and make sure it is user friendly. Look for a nice market to target you CMS too and get it out there. I would suggest to have a hosting solution with it and charge for a monthly fee for hosting the solution. That would give you recurring income and give not so savy users a complete solutions.

Hope this helps. If you need some more ideas, feel free to PM me.
