Almost all directory sites make at least some money.
The question really is how much and how fast?
And the answer is directly related to your marketing skills, and how much you put into it.

I would say it is very worth it! For example today I have just launched a new directory, http://zopso.com and have already made $15 from link submission in about 3 hours! So yes I would recommend starting one.

 

The beggining is fruitful but after awhile featured just stop without PR. But you still get to sell it and make more money I guess.

 

Right, every directory is worth it if maintained well, can expect some good returns.

 

I have another directory which has been up for about 4 months now. It is still getting about $30 per month from listings

Is not enough just to make a directory to make money. MUST be a good directory with a lot of visitors and good serp

 

Well thats why there are so many as long as people keep buying them there will always be alot. THe fact of the matter is money is money the less work it is the better. Me personally I don't like dealing with little cash so when I do a directory I do the best I can to get a lot more money than all these small directories.

 

Seeing your other websites, it would certainly compliment having a directory.

 

I've been planning a couple for months now, but I don't want another generic directory. There is too much directory bloat! I think if there is some edge or unique quality you can provide, it's a great idea. As far as success, same as any other site. Promotion, offering, maintenance, and prayers.
