    Is it true that Google and other search engines may discount or penalize for links running sitewide on directories?

    Run of service advertising has not been advisable for several years and in most circumstances the ROS link will have no value.

    Yeah. Google is against link selling. They'll null the directories PR usually, discount link value. if its a crappy directory too, they'll go the whole length and give you a SERP penalty.

    Yes I agree but if you add a directory of your own as a sitewide link to your directory then??

    Sitewide links should not be more than 10 or 15 if you are selling it in your directory..

    Adding a directory of your own ROS is cross-linking and also not advisable.

    I really dont know but when the last sitewide was cancelled i removed the feature.

    Less people wanted sitewides so it shows fear in the buyers not just the sellers.

    Hello....

    What if the sitewide has "no follow" and all your trying to do is get a new site indexed faster?

    Would this be worth the risk for 1 month or 2 max?

    You can have as many ROS links on a website as you want with rel=nofollow but it won’t do a thing for getting them indexed. (no follow) = (no index)

    nofollow = no vote
    noindex = no index

    There is a difference ;)

    The tests I have run show nofollow links not getting cached as a link from the site.

    pageupseo, what about paid directory submissions?
    It's in essence the same as buying a link.

    What about all those scripts that require to have a footer link and sitewide?

    I don't see many of them been penalized.

    What's the difference if there is any.

    In a fly by night directory the submission fee is a nothing but a purchased link. In a legitimate directory you will not find only anchor text as a title and promotional hype as a description. The title will be the business title and the description will be an objective description of the website and what it offers. Editorial quality and integrity are what separate purchased links from legitimate directory submissions.

    Most legitimate paid directories today decline around 7 out of 10 paid submissions.
