Fight against Smart Pricing and 1 cent clicks

    Hello.

After almost 3 weeks of my site, which has got pretty good traffic, there are problems which will make that I will go crazy (not really :p, but I want higher CPC). My CPC last days is avg. 2 cents, today 1.05 cents.

That is not normal. Smart pricing is here. My site is about entertainment, video, games, fun. I know here CPC isn't so high, but 1 cent isn't normal. When Smart Pricing will go away. I really don't want 1 cent clicks. My CTR is quite good and optimized, but CPC is awful.

Can anyone help me please. I want higher CPC, 5 cents will be probably OK.

Thanks and have a nice day.

I would suggest you take look at the ads being shown on your site. Visit the advertiser page (broswer type in, don't click :) ) and see if its company selling something. If the advertiser him/herself is showing ads I would suggest put him in competitive filter.

In my opinion, there are lot of smart adwords user who will pick up keyword phrases such they have to pay very little money per click.

Also, look at the content on your page, may be you have some cheap keywords and your main keywords are not getting enough attention.

If you are smartpriced, you will get out of eventually and will go in again if your pages are not performing well for advertisers according to google. Hope you are getting related ads. You can't do much about smartpricing, but you can do something about cheap ads being displayed on your pages.

Yes, my ads are pretty good related, so CTR is because of that and smart ad placement so good, but CPC is problem yes.

Like you said, I can try with competitive filter, but I realy don't know if that will help. Is it smart to use a list of low paying advertisers, for example the one which was few days ago on DP?

Sure, Smart pricing is the cause I think... :(

    Thanks.

Try using ONE 336/280 block & one adlink per page. CTR will drop, but eCPM will increase.

inaddition, try using adsencetracker which will show you the url's, keywords & location of the ADs been clicked.

Made a huge increase in income when i did this on my entertainment sites.

I can't use 336x280 ad unit. I use 120x240 vertical banner and 728x90 and link unit, which is quite good placement and I don't have place for 336x280 unit.

So why you think this ad unit will bring me higher CPC?

    Dreamedia, what is adsensetracker?

    You mentioned:
"try using adsencetracker which will show you the url's, keywords & location of the ADs been clicked."

Is adsensetracker a software which you have to pay for? How much does it cost? Any free software out there? Also, wouldn't this be against Google's policies; is adsensetracker sort of like a hack program/ bot crawler? I just don't want to do anything that may cause Google to close my account. Have other people used adsensetracker with good results?

I also maintain an entertainment site and I'm interested in growing my earnings! Please share other strategies on how to increase earnings. Thanks!

I also get those annoying penny clicks too! My CTR sometimes dips to .30 % and on a good day it will go up to .50 %; with most of my clicks happening in my leaderboard banner.

I am shocked there are 1c ads.
At least you can filter them away knowing Google can't place any ad (save for PSAs) with a lower value.

Maybe you can out those FART ads on your site. Where do you get those anyway?

This is a true statement. I suggest that you follow his advice and visit the advertisers (do not click the ads). See if they have Adsense on their pages. If so, add them to your filter. This doesn't take long to do if you don't have that many ads.

Also, watch your keywords. Use section targeting (<!-- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) -->) for text that attracts low paying ads. but only use it once on each page. Don't use a bunch of section targeting on the same page cause it confuses the poor bot.

I'm not allowed to reproduce in full an article from AdsenseGold but I hope Jonathan Leger would allow me to reproduce a bit as follows:

"This is one of the flaws in SmartPricing. It's not based on the performance of the individual page , but rather on the performance of the site as a whole (and some think it's based on the performance of your entire account)."

As suggested by AdsenseGold I had removed Adsense ads from a number pages since the same are featuring low-priced topics like videogames, music, etc. and reducing from three blocks to two of Adsense ads from pages featuring high-priced mortgages, insurance, etc. Strangely the page featuring Activism had been giving me good earnings despite a click or two per day.

Talking about Activism, I don't think anyboby would be able to view it in China where I have many Chinese domains (.cn, hk.cn, .tw, etc).

Well that's not true. I have a huge range of eCPM's, thru a large network, from huge to super crap.

Gia123: adsencetracker.com is the script packaged with adsencegold, but $40 cheaper. it is totaly within asence TOS & pays for itself within a month. I really dont want to explain, just do a search on the forum here & visit the site, ok :)

frisby: i would suggest to not think about the CPC or CTR, but be more concerned about the eCPM.

If you really want a higer ecpm you really need one large AD block in close to the center of the page and above the fold, it really makes a big difference.

Something else to consider, is that the source of your traffic will effect your eCPM. Yahoo, MSN & 'Typo' traffic will click more ads.

I don't think they are the same script. Both claim they are different. I haven't used tracker so I can't say from personal experience, but it didn't support YPN at the time I checked and gold did.

Anybody else can vouch that adsencetracker.com's tracker and the one packaged with AdsenseGold is not the same?

One of them is a clone with some refinements?

    Thanks.
