What is your take on Logo in Branding?

To me, a logo symbolizes your business and creates an image of your business in the eyes of your customers. Logo, is one of the many important elements of business branding. Sadly, it's importance is often transparent to many. Either the business doesn't even have one or it's not good enough.

Some people might oppose the importance of logo in branding. This is because you don't necessarily have to have a logo to establish your brand. However, you will look a lot more professional and unique if you have a logo attached to your brand. A logo will help you significantly in building your image and identify along with your brand. That's what's important about having a logo. After all, humans are visual species!

    What do you think?

I think that a logo is very important in branding. You can have a logo, a character or even a slogan for branding. Any of them are fine, all of them are even better, it gives people more ways to remember your site or product.

It maybe just be because I'm a designer, but it's a top priority that there is a good logo/the site is branded well. Mainly due to the fact that people see these before they see the content. For example if I'm searching for say information on Hypnosis... and I come across two sites, one a default wordpress site with good info and the other a well designed site with good-but-not-as-good info my instinct will send me to the well designed site because it at least seems that they have put effort into it therefore the content should be worth the visit.

    It is obviously very important.

The human mind tends to associate images with something very easily, and therefore a good logo goes a long way in building a good brand.

I don't agree with most of the comments here.

A logo generally doesn't mean much except in the case of big, big
companies with lots of money to waste on "brand-building"

Way more important than your logo is that people understand
your offer. There are only three points to compete in marketing
today: low price, exclusivity, superior service.

An attractive logo has something to do with exclusivity as in Guchi
bags and Nike shoes but for small online businesses to believe
that they will magically get "mind-share" by having a nice logo
    is not accurate.

Brand-building with logos is strictly for bigger businesses. For
small ones it's not a useful strategy and if you pay good money
to insert your logo in space-advertising you'll be wasting space
that is better used for SELLING YOUR OFFER!

This is proven. Tested. Read John Caples.

Logos waste valuable selling space in all sorts of marketing
communciations. I am not saying a logo isn't nice. It is - nice.
But nice doesn't sell products - salesmanship does.

I agree with Loren here. Logo is important but mostly for big companies that have money to spend to imprint it in people's minds. You would have to expose your logo many times before people will identify a certain brand with a logo. For a small business, especially for online business, logo is less important. What is important is to clearly define what you offer and how you differ from everybody else.

But Logo is an important part in any business, whether its a small online business or its a wallmart. and the main purpose of your business is to provide unique and innovative services, thus your product will talk for you. but still the logo is what makes the first impression.

Sorry I took the wrong turn on the topic, but I think a logo is very important. It serves as an advertisement for you on your products and can catch an eye for just looking nice regardless of what it sells. It also can give a message of exclusivity if desired.

That's probably the reason you are not doing tooo well and lack a recognition in the industry you operate in.

Also, when you say Big, Big and Big brands, do you want say that, these brands started of without building their identity??? (Assumption: Logos establish Identity).

Logo is your IDENTITY... When you deliver Low-price, focussed or differentiated product... you want your consumers to remember you, your website and how your website looked/appeared (Your Logo).

Sadly though, while appreciation, we do not consider the brand value that a website builds. Our Buy/Sales/trade section mostly and at times only considers a website's Page Rank to evaluate a price. Thats where I belive most webmasters miss-out and end up in losses (Lack of knowledge of BRANDs).

A logo can create a long term perception in customers/people’s mind. The may forget your name but can recall you by just a glance on your logo. It represents your organization as a pictorial form.

Logo is one of the most important tools in building a IMAGE for your website. The last thing you'd want is ignore its importance.

Logo is as equally important for small business as it is large. Even if you only market to a small area, say a small rural town, you need to give potential clients a 'visual' to remember your product or service by.

On a functional note.. A logo would be recognised by a number of clients, customers, investors etc etc... Not all, but certainly some... And to have a logo of quality in both design and style would ensure a high level of quality is maintained in this area of your company and also hopefully the rest of the company...

Yes Logos are very important. they will increase the brandness of your business.

    Maybe this can help:

After you named your business, it needs an identity and that's where your logo cames in. A business logo serves for the following reasons:

    * It helps people identify and remember your company.
    * It conveys professionalism.
    * It gives your business a personality.
    * It helps build trust.
    * It helps to attract more clients.

Yes, Logos are very important for a business, since it represents the company, its culture. It will help us to give a strong message to the viewers, at least in our experiences. our logo ( check out http://www.verzent.com ) made us to get more business inquiries since we are representing the innovation. there is a limit in the descriptions you are putting in your website, people may not get enough time to go through that. but if your logo can summarize who are you and what you are doing.

You're talking about difference between brand and direct response advertising... In case of direct response advertising logo doesn't matter so much, but here we're talking about importance of logo in branding... and answer is: yes... it's very important if you want to make your brand successful and recognizable long term... the truth is that direct response advertising is usually more effective (or only) way to get customers for small business companies, but I believe that design, which includes importance of logo, is very important part of marketing for every type of business
