Ok the weirdest thing happened with me. I have this site, which reached PR4 about 6 or so months ago. It is a blog, I did a fair bit of backling (quality), but then I lost interest in it. Had hosting issue so I completely abandoned it i.e nothing was hosted on the domain, this was for about 3-4 months. I reuploaded the site about 2 months ago but it went down again after about like 15-20 days due to hosting issues. Today I reuploaded the site, abuot 4 hours ago. I checked it now and it has a PR3. So what could be the case? I am not complaining, actually very happy about it, but it was a bit shocking!!
Maybe your pr dropped when the site was offline, and based on the quality links your site already have you kept some pr value even if it's lower than the last one.. simply enjoy it
my best advice to you - decided if you are serious about the blog or not - i.e shall you pay for hosting or let it die?
There had been a similar case with me. I had a PR3 blog with a valid pagerank not used it for some time and the term for hosting was over and I forgot to shift the domain to new host. The old host showed suspended page , it was more than a week . After I transferred the domain to new host , I checked the pagerank , it dropped to 0 and even showed a invalid or red in checkpagerank.net. The site checkpagerank showed that the domain was invalid and original domain was where I had a link of the domain pointing from. Even the cache showed the other domain
I will say you are lucky to see a drop of just PR4 to PR3... My website was PR3 and it went down about 2 months ago due to hosting issues, as I forgot to pay the hosting bills.... I found website not working few days back, and did the necessary actions to get it back But it was already late, my Pages were deindexed from Google and my PR3 has dropped to PR0 So, in my view.... If you have incoming links to pages that does not exist.....the value of those links is 0 and hence your PR drops
Yes I think that may be it. Because there were some pretty decent backlinks to it and I checked them and the were still there. I was shocked as the same story, host going down, happened to about three other sites with PR and I reupped them ASAP but they had lost PR. Thanks for the input guys
I would get a new host and put that site on a dedicated IP. With the site being PR 3 I think you should keep it. At least use it to trade links with others.
Well not necessarily in terms of the content, but as the guy above you posted, for the trade value and backlinking.
For me its an update considering it was down for quite some time and my other domains had lost their PR (3 to 0 and 2 to 0) while this remains at 3.
