I would like raise this question to help other people to get their website listed in DMOZ! If you have something to say if you have any advices to share with us just do this in this post!
Last 5 years I have submitted about 15 sites, none of them has been accepted, except one non-English website.
This question has been raised at least thirty times already. The key is to quit obsessing over DMOZ. It is simply a directory nothing more nothing less. I had one site listed because it was a quality site and great content. I got a small amount of traffic the first week from there and nothing since. The first week I think it was editors. It did nothing for my PR and did nothing to move me up in search engine ranks. At one point, DMOZ was praised as a "must be listed site." That is no longer the case. It is nothing special and a listing is nothing special. Best thing to do is find the proper category, fill out the form properly and submit it. At that point, forget it and move on.
Well said took me ages to get into dmoz and i was very happy i got in, although its hard to tell if it did my site any good as i hardly get any hits from my listing at all Woc
I think eventually DMOZ will just be thrown in the pile with all the other directories as not important anymore. I tried to get listed a couple years ago when I thought it was important to do so, but then I realized it's of no real benefit, except to maybe impress potential buyers at Sedo...
I think that time is now! I submitted five of my sites and only one got in. It was listed with in two weeks of starting it. I was excited but as I said above, I seen no benefit from it.
I like business.com directory better. I added my site to it and within 2 weeks I have a great deal of traffic. I found looking through the dmoz and finding a site that no longer working and request a change, Its works some of the time
It really depends on the editor really. Here is what I did, found out who the editor was by going to their contact page and sent him an email. He ended up being a real cool guy from the UK (I'm in Arizona, US). I let him know that had submitted to a few categories that he monitored and a few days later, I was IN! On the other hand, I have applied to become an editor since 2000 haha. It's pretty much just luck. But I would suggest to try to contact the editor, who knows!
DMOZ is no longer an important site to be listed in. Yes, a certain amount of this may be sour grapes - I requested a listing about 2 years ago with nothing ever coming of it. DMOZ's lack of responsiveness, it's secrecy and general air of 'if you're not in the club, you can't get a listing' has served only to undermine its credibility. In real terms, SEO and traffic building has moved on and DMOZ is just not important any more - I'd quit sweating over it to be honest.
If you submit your site to a catergory that has no editor ...... I submitted my site and was in in under 6 weeks, I think I was lucky. Did it make a difference to my rankings no. Did buying a link at business.com, hell yes.
I have a PR5 website with plenty of professionally written content by known writers in the niche. I also submitted to DMOZ in the exact category as my competitors and it has been over a year now and they never accepted. It seems that many of the categories are just left alone with no editor and others such as my niche I found out was edited by the owner of a competing website and they are charging $500 to get a listing. The directory doesn't do that much for you anymore and it is very shady. I am not the only one to find out that my niche was being held by competitors and they were charging large amounts, Jeremy Shoemaker (shoemoney) also made a post on his blog how he was contacted by the editor of a category he submitted to and they wanted $2,500.
This is correct, the days of dmoz 'counting' are pretty much over. Although if you DO have a decent site, and submit it, and it's in a category that has active editors, you CAN get a listing. I remember one that was in for years, then went out for some unexplained reason (probably a database cockup their end). No difference to rankings or traffic, so I didn't bother to try and get it back in.
For my experience, Dmoz can give you a PR gain. Four month ago I've submitted five website, only one was accepted and now have PR2, the other four have PR1.
