Wondering what the problem is here...

Its the first time i set up directories and i've had a hard time getting people to sign up. Wondering why. Is it because its niche or is something missing?

I've started adding small articles in each main category where i feature the links of some members to see if that's an appeal-factor to submitters.

Also the directory is attached to another 3 niche directories i'm building up in the same style. And all 4 are linked to my main site, The C Channel. The idea is that each one compliments the other and all attract traffic to eachother.

Problem is I need to get at least 100 submissions before i can start promoting it. So all advice is welcome.
    The link : http://www.the-c-directory.com/travel/

Ideally, you can also list the top do's and dont's that will get me on the right track based on what YOU would like to see in a directory.

    Thanks
PS - Ignore the statistics. They're not adding up as you will see.

    Hi Jamie,

There are a few threads in the Solicitations and Announcement forum from directory submitters looking for directories to add to their list.

Another place to announce your directories if they are SEO friendly is at info.vilesilencer.com You can post an announcement in the Directory Promotion & List Suggestions forum. Dan may add your directories to his niche directory listings if they are considered seo friendly.

Promoting niche directories are a bit more difficult, they appeal to a much smaller audience than a general directory.

If you submit your directories to other directories in the applicable category, other web site owners will see your listings and probably submit to yours also. A Featured Listing in it's niche would place it at at the top of the category list and increase it's visibility.

    Good luck

I tried to submit a link in your webmasters directory but kept getting "You cannot add links in this category. It's locked by administrator."

keep your categories in midle of page not on right side, also you need more link popularity to get traffic.

I had heard of the C-directories, but can't for the life of me remember if I submitted a site or not. In any case I only have one site at the moment that would fit in any of those specific niches.

The trouble with the travel category, in my opinion, is that it overlaps too much with Regional. Some global directories have a Regional section, some have World, some have Travel, some have all three and others have one or none of the above.

So for a specific travel directory you need to advertise your presence to webmasters with sites in all these niches.

It is a lot harder to attract listings to a niche directory. There's really no alternative to populating those first few listings yourself, until things get going.

I agree with Obelia, niche directories are a bit harder than general directories. Just keep plugging your directory here and info.vilesilencer.com and if you know of any travel related website with forum sign up and start plugging away.

Good luck with your directory. Nice looking too.

Yes - starting with the root of the directory, I locked some categories and allow only submission into the sub-categories. This is so that people submit to as specific a category as possible.

Example ; you have an article about SEO. If allowed MOST people would just submit to the category "Articles".
This way, though, the submitter will be forced to be more relevent and submit his/her article into the "Articles>SEO" category.

    Just so things stay clean.

I doubt you submitted to me coz i only just launched them a few days ago. That one submission of yours though is very welcome.

Loopy - thanks for the comments.
CReed - I'm looking into submitting to the sites you recommended. Cheers.
