Any reason you choose to promote those in your signature? If I'm not mistaken, aren't they yours and paid as well?
The biggest problem i have with this is that its a hobby at all. It should be more of a commitment. Some of the most trusted directories have been going for years and years without changing hands or bailing when things have looked bad. At least that was my thinking when i started my directories. My most promoted directory has took a penalty from google and it hurts. I will just simply sit back for a while. As long as i can pay the hosting or bar some other catastrophic disaster the site will go on. Why will i go on you ask? Because its not about making a fast buck for me or a hobby for that matter, its about the people who buy into your directory and the service you offer.
woh woh woh ... hold on wait a minute ... Say what ?? Be clear in what you are trying to say... and check your facts ahead of the time because i have seen much people trash talking who can't keep up. Envy destroys the root of a person. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...,GGLJ:en&q=genuine+paid+directory&btnG=Search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=GGLJ,GGLJ:2006-43,GGLJ:en&q=genuine+paid+web+directory now can i find out the reason why you bring my site as a refeence to ridiculous profit
Many directories are for sale on sitepoint , some of them actually are good deals.Whoever got gerald's this week got a bargain.I think some people who are selling are afraid of what google is doing next.I had no intention to make a bid directory but a BIG directory owner convince me it was the best thing since sliced bread .You have to charge SOMETHING to keep out the excessive spammers and I hope google realises that.I have all my directories set to $1.99 for that reason *paypal needs their 50 cents too you know lol* .I am not really sure how google can really remove all bid directories , can they really justify the expense to have people manually looking and removing all of us from the serps?
I remember not very long ago i was looking into starting a Bid Directory and even remember briefly discussing on a thread with Mikey. My past thought was not of how google see them but i couldn't and cannot see how the bidding can grow, i can see their potential to expand and become more than just a bidding directory, the same as how a standard directory can expand. But here is my own image of how i see a bidding directory and how it goes: Even the most minted of webmasters will only go so high with a maximum bid to get 1st place, ok so you can say no worries, i can then have people bidding up high to rank 1st position for a category, thats cool and will keep things going, but, then that will stop too as a webmaster reaches their limit in investment and because its to rank in a category only, the bidding will be a bit lower. So imagine you then have some nice high bids, the top 5 probably wont move or need to bid again, the categories have maxed out, ie: no more bidding in them. You can add some brand new categories and squeeze for some more, then they max out, or dont get any interest like the popular categories. So things are starting to hit their max, bids are permanent? on most? im unsure if they are to be honest, but if the bid is for permanent listing and a bidder wont go higher then theres no repeat in investment ie: yearly etc. I imagine then that you need to create a Super Duper Fly new feature that no one else has on theirs to keep the Bid directory alive and stop it from flatlining. All of this went through my head while i was considering one, and google really was the last thing on my mind.
That is only one of the flaws in the system, it as stands is set to die in the backside. The concept if changed could be quite a winner
But why is another bidding directory bidding high just to get to the #1 spot? What is the difference between the number one spot and number 10 on the front page? For a while I thought these so-called big and highly promoted directories where exchanging front page links. Because they all have the same directories listed. just my 3 cents
This has to go down as one of the most pathetic threads I've read. Who cares if a bidding directory owner wants to sell, all this 'OMG I am so shocked', 'I can't believe it' gimme a break. I've always said they are a complete waste of time and maybe I'm wrong but I doubt if this mikey guy has earned any 'real' money from it over the past month or so because of all this worry about Google, link buying, and the fact that people (apart from a few here it seems) realize that bidding directories are not even fit to be called directories, lotteries maybe, directories, nope. Just an opinion though.
How would you compare a bid directory to a lottery? I don't really like to get involved in arguments I find @ DP, but I do find it funny how you always come off with a negative view in most of your posts.
Starting Bid Has Been Placed for Zorg from vicdigi. Yep, thats me and I'd be crazy not to! or some might say I am crazy too. Those who do, rant to yourselves.
Read my posts on why I compare, no point in me repeating myself. Sorry about my views apparently being 'Negative' to you, I say what I think and what I believe, I don't do lemming culture. Feel free to ignore my posts if they get you down.
So you say and publicly acknowledge that you are not a cheerleader/squad member, fanatic, apple kisser and a choir member ?
