Can anybody please refer me any free software for designing logo?

I know by using normal graphics software its very easy to design any logos. But I want to know any specific freeware dedicated to only logo making purpose or banner making purpose?

Please specify only Freeware and open source.

    Thanks in advance. :)

Very Easy to design logos ? LOL good logs take a long time to design and it's probably the pinnacle of web/print design . Why do you think corporations pay millions for their logos ?

    Try Inkscape > http://inkscape.org/
Just out of interest, why does it have to be open source?

If you are looking for a logo make script and you will find it i would realy love to see it, test it and put it on my website. Untill than open source and free :
Linux based programs that work on windows and mac to are :
For image manipulation use Gimp - free to download, free to use even as a corporation.
For vectors - images that can be printed with any size - Inkscape - you have the link up from @Kerosene
Bouth programs are Open Source and you can find verry easy scripts, addons and plugins for them and as well, if you know programing, you can improve them as you wish.

GIMP is a good start if you want free software and it's available for both Linux and Windows.
