In my opinion, the best wordpress theme I think is Sillver (http://www.magictheme.com/demo/?theme=sillver). Sillver is a free, clean and simple WordPress theme. It features 100% responsive design and can automatically adjust to any screen size, from desktops to mobile devices. Sillver comes with many advanced features to create your website/blog easily and quickly.
Which one is the best? Depends on what the blog is about. A real estate blog, a magazine blog, an art portfolio blog... each will need its own kind of theme. That's why there are various blog theme styles. Do you want the site to look elegant, informal, business-like, mechanical, busy, minimal...? Do you want it ready to use? Or do you have the skills and prefer to have as much control over your theme as possible? Some are designed to be as user-friendly as possible. Others (like Thesis) are more for savvy users who know how to code. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is to buy a theme or framework that's not at your level of expertise. I like Suffusion, a free responsive theme, because it lets me make a custom layout where I can pretty much put widgets anywhere I want. It also has features that you might ordinarily use a plugin for (if you are a non-coder). Thesis, a premium product, is great with typography but hard to use. Ultimatum is supposed to be a great drag and drop builder but I heard it starts out with a blank (as in BLANK) page. I also like Weaver II. It is easy to customize if you just add your own header and create a custom color scheme. Please note my blogs are text-heavy and light on graphics. Hope that helps.
For me the best fee WordPress theme is OceanWP + Elementor plugin. Here are some website examples on the same theme: Izrada sajtova Pogrebno Beograd Muzicka skola
I like Astra, https://www.elegantthemes.com/, and https://mythemeshop.com/. These are all pretty good

Personally, I have always preferred themes which have a grid layout, as such a layout makes it easy to find posts from the home page. My current theme is a variation on grid layout with newest post accentuated.
